I was going through some old files when I discovered an old project of mine that I decided to resurrect. This is kind of a "what if" sort of thing. Specifically: What if Windows Server 2003 had a Windows XP-style Welcome Screen? The result is this: The graphics used here are actually officially by Microsoft. I pulled them from the OOBE\images folder (I think they were used in the activation window, iirc). So you might say that this is just about as 'official' as something like this gets. I'll release a full LogonUI.exe mod for Windows XP once I'm sure everything looks good and is working properly (just gotta touch-up on a couple extra things). In the meantime, I'm open to feedback. Edit - Here's a download link: Attachment Deleted

Now that this threat got necrobumped (by a rather ridiculous reply, I might add), I guess I can chip in as well. Heh.
Didn't Server 2003 offer a Welcome Screen, though disabled by default? I believe there is/was a key in the registry that controls it, like it does in XP. Either that, or I'm confusing it with the beta builds of Windows XP, when the Welcome Screen was still a 'hidden' feature.

Either that, or I'm confusing it with the beta builds of Windows XP, when the Welcome Screen was still a 'hidden' feature. As far as I know, Server 2003 did not have a welcome screen. While the setting to use it does technically exist in the registry, it doesn't seem to do anything if you are running a Server OS. I've used almost every edition of Server 2003 (withe the exception of Storage Server), and not even Windows Home Server has it. The only way I know of to bring it up is by killing explorer.exe, and then running LogonUI.exe through either Command Prompt or Task Manager. However, when it does come up, it is identical to the one in XP, and it has next to no functionality. Regardless of whether or not you have one, it will always tell you that your password is incorrect. And if my memory serves me correctly, the shutdown button doesn't even do anything. If there is a way to use it as the actual login screen, I don't know about it. And believe me, I've looked! Splitwirez, shut up! you even understand what R.O.B. needs? server 2003 welcome screen simliar to xp. Um, that's a bit harsh. This is actually something I was working on a while ago, so it's not really something I need. I am going to ask that you please be more respectful toward other members. You have been warned. Speaking of which, I just realized I never released this! It took a bit of digging, but I managed to pull it up from an old backup of my server. So, after nearly three years, here it finally is: LogonUI_Server.res (327.91 KB) To apply it using Resource Hacker, go to Action > Add from a Resource file (*.res, *.mui, *.dll, *.exe). Be sure you select the option to overwrite duplicates, or it most likely won't work. Only for Windows XP!I never really got around to properly finishing this, so there may be a few rough edges here and there (I don't remember exactly, but I think there may be a few leftover hints of blue from the XP welcome screen). So do keep that in mind!

What's with quoting and then not adding anything? First on the SCT thread, now this.

What's with quoting and then not adding anything? First on the SCT thread, now this. It's another account, the one that quoted without adding anything on the SCT thread was andtave4545. Wonder why they're using multible accounts just to do this.

Please do not spam - you have been warned! Oh and as long as I'm here: I've gone ahead and added the download link to the original post since it looks like some users were having trouble finding it.
