Hi everyone, I decided to change the aero style gear icons in services.msc to classic ones . For this I reshacked Filemgmt.dll.mun, but sadly the result is not as expected. Can somebody tell what I missed? Thanks

Go on Command Prompet and type [mcbuilder]. It'll clear MUI caches Tried it. Not working...

Have you tried reshacking services.msc itself? mscs seem to have resources as well.

Sorry for the bump but well, I suggest to use the services.msc from Windows XP x64, since it has the classic gear icon
Edit: And oh, you forgot to change bitmaps as well (filemgmt.dll), so MMC uses bitmaps for the snapins

I didn't realize the "icons" inside the services.msc are bitmaps. When I replaced the bitmap, the icon changed but it is too transparent and discolorized. Can someone kindly tell me what is the proper way to edit bitmaps? What kind of editor can I use?

I think I know exactly what issue you're having because I'm having a very similar issue with explorerframe.dll.mui. I don't know what to do about it either, but from what I can tell there is the bitmap itself, and then there is a separate transparency map stored somewhere else. I don't know where in the file or even if it is stored within the same file.
Also it should be stated that ReShack does not have proper access to System32. When you try to access System32 via ReShack, it actually accesses SysWoW64 instead. I don't think running as admin fixes this, but copying the file outside sys32, modifying it, then putting it back into sys32 (done most easily through linux, while Windows is not running).
