If it is a 64-bit program, there is no WinXP compatibility option under any Windows version. Microsoft has "forgot" that there was 64-bit XP.

But by using Microsoft Compatibility administrator you can see if there are other suitable compatibility layers. For instance, there is NoPaddedBorder.

By the way, there is a Win2000VersionLie compat layer for 64-bit programs (as well as for service packs: Win2000SP3VersionLie etc). It only tells the Windows version as 2000 but it can work.

And, by the way, one can use SetWindowCompositionAttribute.exe to fix transparency in any application, so what's the problem anyway?

Odd...wait, are there separate x86 and x64 versions of Office 2010? There are. I downloaded an installer from the Microsoft website using the serial I used for my previous installation, it lets you choose either a 64-bit or 32-bit version of Microsoft Office to install (for Office 2010 anyways, not sure about the others). I currently have the 64-bit version of Microsoft Office 2010 installed which is probably why I don't get the Windows XP compatibility option, I can still get the non-DWM style borders on the default theme natively if I disable DWM though.

SetWindowCompositionAttribute.exe class <windowclass> accent 1 0 0 0
Or try Win2000VersionLie compat layer via registry.

Yeah, Microsoft Office 2010 was the first version to come in both 32-bit and 64-bit.
How does UAC work with XP compatibility? Because I've gotten UAC popups with Office and XP compatibility. Is it just me?
I would also like to mention that I would still like to look into a full-on replacement for the ribbon once we have some developers on board (whether they be one of our current members, or someone new). But one thing at a time. We have a lot of planned projects with no way to really get them off the ground. So these fixes for the current ribbon UI are totally welcome. Plus, it'll provide options for people who might not want to replace the ribbon.

I know this thread is quite old but UAC popups are normal when using XP compatibility mode. In many cases Vista or Win2000 compatibility mode will solve that problem.
My office solution is to use an old version of Office. even Word 97 works fine on Windows 10 (but not right out of the box).

Yes, old versions of Office do indeed still work in Windows 10. The computer I have at work is running Windows 10, and it has Office 2003 and 2007. However, like I mentioned previously, there are many features that older versions of Office simply do not have, even with the compatibility packs. That's why I think it'd be good to try and get the newer versions (Office 2007+) to look and behave more like the older ones, while still retaining their newer features.
