I've been working on a VM for the past few days now, and it's going pretty well. It looks almost entirely accurate, except for the branding and wallpaper, and a few other minute details. But, basicthemer2-detours doesn't work for me, and that causes windows with extended frames to be broken, like they usually would with normal basicthemer2. I've tried another basicthemer2 detours, and it worked, but it had a console window for explorer, and it made the StartIsBack taskbar and start menu black, so that's out of the question. Anyone got any solutions?

Microsoft, why did you remove Aero and add the Metro UI?

Thereβs a windhawk mod that fixes this issue, you just have to add the filenames of the executables that it applies to.

If you edit your msstyles it should work no matter what basicthemer you use. Attachments:

Depends on which program you want to fix. For explorer this is not necessary and enabling it for explorer completely breaks SIB++,editing the msstyles and adding the required textures fixes it in explorer. But for paint or any other program its a must have with aero basic. My bad for not making it clear.

Because that also appears in black

But be sure to edit its code and exclude explorer.exe and include the apps you see with a visual glitch. winclassic.net/thread/1672/disable-extending-frames-client-area

Meanwhile, I have tested some other themes, like an XP-looking one for example, and it didn't have the navbar textures missing. Also, the Windhawk mod fixes this in a rather... wonky way, where the active and inactive textures would be swapped from what they were supposed to be...

Navbar Rebar and InactiveNavbar Rebars properties should be exactly the same for basic themer to do it's job. Same for InactiveNavbar and NavBarComposited.

Actually they aren't meant to be the same - in terms of what the OP said with active/inactive textures being the wrong way around, this also occurs with DWM disabled starting from approximately version 1809 of Windows 10. There are a couple of workarounds - inverting the textures is one, and a 1-line patch to ExplorerFrame.dll (to be documented in the future) can restore the intended behaviour. However, making both states use the same colour bar will visibly break immersion on inactive explorer windows and is unnecessary.
