to work around the uac issue, in hkey classes root/clsid search for authui.dll and find the entry for background and logon, then create a new folder in system32, such as oldauthui and place the 7 authui dll and mui there, then redirect the clsid entries to it I'm not sure what you mean here. What exactly do I need to do?

What exactly do I need to do? If it's of any help, here's a simple setup for it all: logon7forw8.exe (2.71 MB) Edit: Now in an SFX, and now includes support for other languages. Edit 2: Now with uninstallation support, just run again to uninstall. Edit 3: Replaced powerrun with NSudo Edit 4: Removed useless tiles and fixed user tile not showing up

Both don't work for me, kinda. The login7forw8.exe gives an error about powerrun wanting allow command line to be ticked. My guess is the thing to create the ini doesn't account for that. Removing that code and just making my own ini with that ticked does make it work though. At Login I always get a error saying Windows Security Please enter a username and password. I have no cursor here so I can only navigate with keyboard. I can press enter for OK, and that takes me to a login screen with three users(?) Two key icons with no name, and my user account and pic in the middle. I can login to my account fine though with keyboard navigation. UAC works now, but I still have no cursor.
LoginScreen.zip does nothing aside from enable a startup sound.

Either way, I've released an updated version with powerrun replaced with NSudo (which works properly now).

Yea, that's expected, but after running it, logging out, switching users, or pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del should display the W7 UI instead of the W8 UI.

Oh I rebooted after running it. That's generally not required, but it should have worked.

Still only Windows 8 login.
Also, cd by itself doesn't work, you need cd %~dp0
