I have windows 10 Anniversary Update and today was greeted a fullscreen window which told me the creators update was almost finished downloading.
Naturally I was stumped because I have windows defender disabled as well as the windows update service, along with all the telemetry crap gone as well. On further inspection, I have found a new folder that was created on my c drive with that being Windows10Upgrade. Simply I stopped the windows 10 upgrade assistant in the task manager then deleted the contents of that folder mentioned before. After I taken ownership of the folder and set it so even the system user could not read or write to that folder, so hopefully that crap will not happen again.
***RANT*** I hate where windows is going these days, especially with all these "modern apps" and the UWP bs. I don't like the fact that microsoft is including its own software packages like edge or an email client, as well as trying their best to force users into using their shitty programs like it will ask "Oh, you sure you don't want to try edge. Its certainly faster than xxxxx" in your browser search results. Especially that they still try and make out that chrome is slower than edge based upon benchmarks from 3-ish years ago. Worst yet they are really trying to screw people over with their shitty in-home antivirus software, Windows Defender on windows 10 being more intrusive as ever; I think I would be less irritated having bonzi buddy builtin to my computer. Even better with the whole antivirus shenanigans, they block programs compiled by the user on their own computer, its a pain in the ass when I am forced to use a VM running windows 8.1 just to do something I personally enjoy. I have reinstalled the anniversary update thrice now, just so I can continue as normal. To me, the anniversary update is as good as w10 is going to get. I used to like w10, with all the new features it added like virtual desktops; and that. Although, I can't say the same for their included digital slut recording every word you speak and their barely functional start menu that does not even work properly (god bless classic shell and the MSMG toolkit). The amount of times I had to take a mallet just to hammer out the dents in the os is ridiculous, one more screw up and I am moving away from this bogged down operating system. Since the release of the S variant of w10, I have had this horrible resentment against Microsoft; because imagine paying for the new surface tablet which by default comes with the S version of windows and not being able to install stuff like the creative suite from adobe and having to pay an additional fee to upgrade to be able to do that. Bill, where the fuck are you at? That Nadella fella should have been thrown out of the window(s) by now.
Thats all I can say for now.

*is frantically clicking this button as fast as is humanly possible* Honestly I'd say don't bother waiting, just go back to Windows 8.1 ._. (and then wait for Start9, I suppose...Virtual Desktops on Windows not 10 is still on our to-attempt-to-do list, lool)

Or you could just use this to disable the windows to autoupdate: forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/windows-10-update-disabler.72234/(And yes it really does disable windows updates so if you really depend on the minor ones than the feature ones then tbh your mileage may vary, you can install it or not but believe me it works like a charm in Anniversary Update)

K-I will have a look Bront, can't say it will work myself yet because a lot of software that claim to disable don't work. Usually because they forget to turn off the update orchestrator. Even still, after doing that windows 10 installs the upgrade assistant. I think the only way we are all going to be free of this rubbish is to block all the addresses that windows updates from via the hosts file; kinda like how people use the hosts file to block malware domains which windows 10 basically is.

I completely agree with you. It's sad to see what Windows has become compared to what it once was.
As I've said many times now, Microsoft has been slowly removing the user's ability to customize and control Windows since Vista. However Windows 10 was a bigger leap in that direction than any version before it. From 2006-onward, Microsoft has been mostly doing one of two things: either they've been removing certain features altogether, or they've been changing existing ones in a way that makes them less customizable.
But Windows 10 is different. Windows 10 is the first version of Windows where I truly feel like I have no control over the OS. And it goes beyond removing control over the UI (which don't worry, they excelled in that regard too). The two biggest contributing factors to this feeling are the updates and the telemetry.
As far as the updates go, I realize that auto-updating can technically be disabled, but you still can't cherry pick which updates you want to install through the UI. That's still a certain level of control taken away from the user. And for those who wish to keep updates enabled, they've become more intrusive than ever.
The telemetry, however, is by far the worst thing about Windows 10 to me. Hands down. I won't lie, I actually do like Cortana as a feature, but I won't use her because I'd prefer to have as little information of mine sent to Microsoft as possible if I can help it. And that's the thing. With a lot of Windows 10's telemetry, you really CAN'T help it. The fact that Windows 10 reportedly ignores the user's hosts file for certain IP addresses is really telling to me. Honestly, the only version of Windows 10 that I'd feel even remotely safe using on a day-to-day basis would be Windows 10 Enterprise, as you actually can control how the OS tracks you. And from what I've heard, it actually does respect your settings (feel free to prove me wrong on this, but I haven't heard any complaints about it).
I don't think Windows 10 S will take off, and I seriously hope it doesn't. Having an OS that's basically just UWP-only would be terrible, and one step closer to the walled-garden Microsoft clearly wants. If you buy a surface that comes with it, upgrade it to a version of Windows 10 that's actually useful. Windows 10 S should just die like Windows RT.
And don't get me started on those Edge notifications. I was actually in disbelief when I first saw one of those. It's ridiculous how much Microsoft nags you to use the computer that you spent your hard-earned money on a certain way. Instead shoving benchmarks from a couple of years ago in the user's face, try to actually seriously compete with Google. People seem to forget that there was a time when Internet Explorer was innovative, and actually set a lot of the web standards we know today (which is ironic, considering nowadays IE has a reputation for ignoring a lot of standards). But that time is long gone. If Microsoft wants to get their name back in the web browser world, they've got a lot they need to change. And UWP isn't helping it either (even though Edge kind of cheats at being a UWP app anyway, but that's a whole other topic).
It's really surprising to me that so many people are just OK with all of Windows 10's problems, even to the point of defending them. There are legit issues with Windows 10 that should absolutely be addressed, so it really rubs me the wrong way when such a large number of people turn a blind eye to them. Without criticism, how can you expect to improve? I'm not sure how many of these people are fanboys, and how many of them are just flat out shilling for Microsoft. But I really wouldn't be surprised by either one. I'm hoping that Microsoft will actually make a really good Windows release again, but I kind of doubt that's ever going to happen anytime soon. They seem pretty set in the direction they're headed, and that's really a shame.
Also, 1507 felt like a beta build. Just thought I'd say that.

Recent KB4056898 made my computer, AMD A6-4400M to freeze on browsing sites and watching videos. I had to uninstall it. But is means I will not be able to update Windows any more.

I blocked updates last week. Used a combination of Win10Privacy & DoNotSpy10. No idea if they will actually block Windows from updating, but had no more crappy Apps installing against my will, so who knows.

New method of disabling the windows updates (because disabling them through the services and registry is not enough). Taken From Here: superuser.com/questions/1058487/permanantly-delete-bits-annd-windows-update-services-in-windows-10""" Here's how: Open services through Task manager Find the BITS and wuauserv services and disable them Open windows\system32\ Find qmgr.dll and wuaueng.dll Take ownership of these files using properties and move these files to another disk Now those services will never run. """ God bless that fella, it works. I just renamed the files with a ".bak" extension instead.

Cry me a river man we already got the best of the best top of the line hack the planet windows open source modders on winclassic what stops you from doing this? spitfirex86 was kind to make this taskbar for us then classicshell then use 7 taskbar tweaker metro apps even if installed wont even budge =) But i removed mine at start then always properly disable automatic updates in services.msc that would cover it now when we got a full classic ui fixed with opensource patchwork we dont need win8 . But i agree about Nadella that guy should be brought to a firing squad for his crimes about taking away the classic UI from us like that under our noses

I am biding my time until ReactOS gets to functional BETA. Hopefully that's sooner rather than later, they seem surprisingly close.

It's been in Alpha for over 20 years, don't bank on it happening anytime soon.

If you were expecting cpls of a libre OS based on NT 5.2 to work on NT 10.0, then you were wrong. Besides why are you using 0.3.9 instead of the latest version - 0.4.9?

The desk.cpl wasn't even designed to be used on vista, 7, 8 nor 10 in first place, but on ReactOS itself (and possibly Windows NT 5.1/5.2). Besides, don't even deny that you're delusional since you yourself have moaned about ReactOS being sabotaged by Microsoft.

Anything that is not compatible with windows is broken so is the reactos desk.cpl not storing schemes as windows 1.0 and win95 did , and yes they broke it last working version is 0.3.9 try 0.4.9 and it fails even the reactos devs admitted it was a code problem and when i reported it they said "fix it yourself" Same can be said about mozilla team they got bribed by google to make that shitty quantum first they sneaked in google malware such as safebrowsing into about:config then all of a sudden they take the extensions and customizing away from us all having us rely on waterfox and other forks who do not follow that madness. This is why there is such a delay in progress the ros devs are arrogant treat you like crap when u report broken features that used to work and do not bother fixing shit
