I managed to restore homegroup service in my LTSC 2021 install. Right now I am collecting the resources needed to restore it in one place so the files will not be available immediately. And since it is literally midnight here i might wait till tomorrow to post them.

Got some bad news, i cannot figure out what is wrong with the regkeys i exported and they do not seem to work correctly on my test LTSC 2021 VM and my second install. I will explain what i did exactly so someone else can maybe figure out what i was doing wrong on my other attempts. I did not downgrade any of the system files i listed below so it cannot be that.
Firstly i got a 8.1 VM,then exported all reg keys and values that mention: "hgcpl.dll" "hgprint.dll" "listsvc.dll" "provsvc.dll" "HomeGroupListener" "HomeGroupProvider" Skip the entries that mention WinSxS,it will not bring back any of the functionality.
After exporting all of the things above i added the value "HomeGroupListener" to the value named "LocalSystemNetworkRestricted" at location "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Svchost"
and then i added the value "HomeGroupProvider" to the value named "LocalServiceNetworkRestricted" at location "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Svchost" (THERE ARE ALSO REGISTRY KEYS WITH THE SAME NAME,EDIT THE VALUES AND NOT THE KEYS)
Then i restarted my pc and started the 2 homegroup services from services.msc and it worked. I hope someone else can get to somewhere with this info.
I also tested the functionality today and you can see that it really works. Tested with my 8.1 VM and ltsc 2021 10to7 main install. Attachments:

My exported registry keys let the services start, but HomeGroup doesn't work because they include data from an active HomeGroup on the Windows 8.1 VM. i think when merged on the 21H1 VM, it tries to recreate the same homegroup but fails. I’ve tried to fix it by deleting the active homegroup on the 8.1 VM and re-exporting the keys without the conflicting values, but it won't let me merge the reg files on the Win10 VM. When you exported the keys the first time and it worked, did you have an active homegroup on the 8.1 VM? |
