Confirming what powerplay has already posted: Tested in a VM: File Explorer is toast in Win 10 ver 1809 and the whole thing freezes up, with explorer itself eventually crashing and restarting (hence why it's screwed up in this screenshot). Shellstyle.dll is gone, Either merged elsewhere or removed; not sure which. Alternative file managers work, but it's not ideal. So where do we go from here?

The icons on the desktop are shown well, this means the Desktop mode in Explorer may work as well.
By the way, does it work in Ribbon mode?

I never disabled the Ribbon, so that is Ribbon mode.
Bloody Dark theme is to blame for all this, I know it.

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if it is due to dark theme.

*cue generic Superhero appearance jingle* EDIT: To clarify, this is a Start9 module, not a magically fixed Explorer.

Can THAT module be made independent so that we can run it on newer 1809 maybe add it to memory as a service?

because right now if we update classic mode on rs5 it gets rendered to a vegetable state without file browsing feature we get a broken os rs4 was ok but rs5 is utterly broken

Just using Start9 would solve the RS5 problem too, yet you seem to insist that there's some kind of advantage to your tangled mess of Explorer band-aids. That's what I want to understand. Why is it that continuing to McGuyver tools and fixes into Explorer seems so obviously preferable to just using Start9, that you act like it's a reasonable request to ask me to tear Start9 to pieces just to facilitate your method? I'm not trying to attack your reasoning, I just want to understand it.

Your right mcguyvering through explorer even today on 1803 breaks many things , we cant bring back features like classic resolution changes or classic clock with start9 that would maybe be a reality maybe classicthemea.exe wont have to be ran at all and login box a la win2000 could be added in place of the immersive stuff that is a kickass idea maybe even sever core free version would load up fine with start9 and that would be interesting cause server core dont use DWM at all Edit : but then again until it gets a full release maybe just compile an RS5 explorer fix (if its easy)? cause the light theme will eliminate the need for replacing icons

Punctuation would help.

I mean start9 is a noble project and a thing i truly expect . But its never wrong to implement that classic explorer module as a temporary mcguyver tool until we get start9 in all of its glory.

Anyone find a solution to this? I have updates "delayed" through W10Privacy, so I haven't gotten this update yet. Would like to keep Windows Explorer intact as long as I can. Clasurol, what are you using as a stand-in file explorer there? It looks like it's called "2xexplorer"?

so tell me baloo how are we gonna save a notepad mspaint or photoshop file with 2explorer? you cant you will get an error because explorer is not just browsing files it is part of the os and saves files too while you browse where to save them so until some genious on this forum posts a fix to this i suggest to stick to good old build 1803 which works just fine. I suggest more people on winclassic move to win10 with startisback classic3.mssstyles and classicthemea.exe + classicshell im on rs4 with all apps and mobile shit deleted got rid of cortana and all the other bloat like peoplebar or onedrive and edge (cause even ms will dump it) . Happy with rs4 for now but i want to be on the latest windows assuming everything works fine with classic theme.

Clasurol, what are you using as a stand-in file explorer there? It looks like it's called "2xexplorer"? A new shell/Explorer replacement (as in taskbar, start menu as well as file explorer) is needed tbh. Some people on here are working on one called Start9, but it's a bit of a way off. Link: www.start9.menuAs for 2xeplorer, that's my fave file manager. I used it in that screenshot to work around File Explorer being crippled. And I could only do so much with it. Alternative file managers on 1809 are pointless as Explorer is far too broken with Classic Theme now. At this point, it's best either to delay updates until Start9 is released, or update but forgot about using Classic Theme, for now at least.
