I have tried using the user rights method as for some reason when I download "classictheme.exe" using the mega.nz link it says it's downloaded but no prompt to say AV had deleted it nor was it to be found in any of my typical download folders.
When I do this most windows appear correctly using the classic theme, however explorer still uses the modern theme and if I close explorer to recover a classic taskbar no explorer file windows open correctly (plain white screen) please advise on what i can do
OS: windows 8.1 pro

Were you previously using a custom visual style?

Hmm...you mentioned that you did some "messing about" in the Shoutbox...mind elaborating on that?

I added the dlls that classic theme adds to c:\windows (not system32 as system32 is not the address of explorer.exe) I also had a degree of success with the ROS explorer but that has it's own problems. at least I haven't managed to break the login screen yet

Does File Explorer work without those in there?
