No, it's a false positive. Google the term. Nothing is infallible.

This program messes with permissions of Windows memory area, which is suspicious activity to the antivirus software.

Lemme teach y’all something. Antivirus programs are literall jokes. Remember the WannaCry virus? Took them antivirus programs 15 days to actually detect it. Since most virusses are 0-days, anticirus software is pretty much useless. What it does flag is innocent pieces of software that change stuff with Windows. Most cases are just false positives I second that!!!

The picture I posted clearly shows that there's malware.

The picture I posted clearly shows that there's malware. You believe it’s malware. Fine. I am telling you: there’s no true classic theme program that doesn’t do the memory thing anixx talked about, or something similar. Antivirus hates anything that touches Windows stuff. Some antivirus softwares even trigger if you get a dll from system 32 and put it somewhere else, it’s to prevent any unwanted changes from the system. But it ain’t great for personalizing your pc!

I am sure, antiviruses would not complain about powershell or Microsofts' handle.

Sorry to bump but I seem to be having download failures when I attempt to download this file. I understand it is not malware, I do not think it is my antivirus that is causing this particular issue because the file isn't even making it onto my machine. Not that I particularly want to stick my neck out for AVG. Is this download link still work for others or is this problem particular to my machine?
EDIT: I happened to attempt downloading this while SourceForge was down. To my knowledge, it is still down, but I hadn't put together that was the issue.
EDIT 2: SourceForge is back up but this link still doesn't work. Anyone have another link or copy?

Sure, why not. Added 3 command line switches: /enable, /disable, and /toggle. These will only execute the action and close the app, without showing the tray icon. I wonder, what use case there can be for "toggle"?

You could create a single shortcut that enables or disables classic theme. But that destroys the entire point of this application.

Well it seems the download link works again. I like the simplicity of this compared to opening SCT every time.
Edit; Cool, freshman now.

Is there a way to reliably create a task that will run this program upon login? I have tried to create one that does this in the task scheduler, but it never seems to work. I'm probably doing something wrong unknowingly

Have you made sure the priority setting for the task is above 'Low'? If it isn't, the task will very slowly run so you might not even see it until your pc is on for like 5 minutes.

So, on Win10 you have instead of p.2 put the task call into Startup folder, and you do not need to make two tasks, only one. Fixstrips is also not needed as well as color sliders adjusting.

Yeah I'm running on Windows 10 and super confused about the wording of what you just said and the tutorial. It didn't work because I confused myself. Is there a version of the tutorial for Windows 10 with those steps in mind?

Is there a version of the tutorial for Windows 10 with those steps in mind? No. I do not use W10, so even if I try to modify this for Win10, it may have unintended consequences. What I can say is you definitely should create a task with admin privileges, from which you run classicthemetray and call that task AFTER the taskbar is loaded but before the file manager is loaded... Or, you may try this program (it does exactly this, creates a task): www.winclassic.net/thread/456/reversibly-enable-disable-classic-simple It is specifically for Win10. It does not use ClassicThemeTray, but its method of enabling the classic theme is the same.
