I too am also having the black system tray icons which I changed from the Win10 defaults using CustomizerGod. The Classic Task Manager system tray icon is not black though... Open-Shell: SCTT: Granted, I'm using the old public version 0.0.7606.17235 linked above... not sure what the point is of having a public thread, public Github binary downloads, only to have them throw messages that the user needs access to a private build, and give no instructions on how to get it! I like to use the "XP Classic" start button. Here it is for anyone who might want it: Bigger: Here it is in Classic-Shell / Open-Shell format: Bigger:

Btw, the point of having a private beta is so that I have a few testers with a different arangement of operating systems to test the software on. Creating software like this is pretty complicated and bugs in the software are a common thing. To be able to just push out many functions and not get 300+ people screaming at me for their setup breaking is a pretty nice thing. Having a public thread is handy so that people are aware that the project exists and is being worked on. Why public github builds? Short answer: The software can automatically update itself. About the "no instructions": Why would I give instructions for something people can't access? The people who can access the software always get clear instructions on how to install and use the utility.

OK, I understand. I have the 1.1.9.0 private build. I promise not to scream at you, I will try to be a good tester. With this build, the black tray icons are solved! Here is a little bug, not sure if it can be fixed: I use the classic task manager. When I double click the task manager icon on the system tray (on the left): Nothing happens! But, I can right click the icon and the below menu pops up, allowing me to restore it: BUT... that menu will stay there until I click on one of the options. By the way, the partially obstructed Windows version sometimes is not partially obstructed. I'm not sure what causes it to sometime get hidden like that. I don't have auto-hide enabled, as far as I'm aware. I actually can't find where the auto-hide setting is. (I'm using Open-Shell 4.4.160.) But it's not auto-hiding!

Another thing I just noticed... the text on the start menu buttons does not use the font set in the scheme from SCT configuration. The same is true for the clock on the right part of the taskbar. Here's my scheme: www57.zippyshare.com/v/qcrObyxq/file.htmlAnd the font that it uses (should be what appears on taskbar buttons and system tray clock when using the above scheme): www42.zippyshare.com/v/QKKW2LTH/file.html

The issue with the system tray is something I keep tweaking but I don't look into. I will do that soon though. Fonts are something I deliberately avoided up until now because it's a bit of a pain to work with font sizes specifically. Is not a priority before releasing publicly though.

Any chance I could get a link to the private beta? Dying to try it.

Thanks Scamdisk. Trying out and I must say, you've done a really good job with it ʇǝǝๅ. It's really good.
Things I noticed in this build:
- The start button has the proper pressed in effect. An actual 3d button. So nice to have that back. - The QuickLaunch icons display correctly now. - You can move tasks around! A very nice feature to have. - You can adjust the icon spacing for the Quick Launch icons, as well as Systray icons as well as taskbar buttons. - The clock now has a tooltip. Talking of tooltips: they are now the proper ones and no longer the balloon type. Nice.
Looking forward to seeing how this progresses. Hat's off, it's fantastic thus far.
EDIT: Just noticed you can move system tray icons around by holding the left mouse button. Great stuff. 👍 EDIT2: Running the latest build (Dec 1st) now. Switching over to this now as my main driver. You've out done yourself.

I *believe* I am at the latest for SCT and SCTT: I am also using Taskbar-Context-Menu-Tweaker 07.29.2020, and ExplorerContextMenuTweaker 11.13.2018. The main issue for me now at this point, is that SCTT's tray "system" icons do not work properly. When I log in to Windows and SCT starts, my Taskbar looks like this (CustomizerGod has been used to change the default Windows 10 icons): The tray icons work as expected when I double click them, or right click them, and these menus show: In order to complete the Windows Classic Theme and address other issues (such as a blank "Settings" screen and a blank Edge screen), all explorer.exe's need closed and restarted. This "corrupts" the task bar, so that it looks like this: App names don't appear on buttons, it's too thin, colors are glitched, and the clock disappears. The tray icons all still show the same menus as above, however. The solution is to replace the taskbar. I have not yet tried playing with StartIsBack, mainly because I want to use Open-Shell for the Start Menu. SCTT is the program for me! But, in its current alpha, the tray "system" icons don't work. The Classic Task Manager tray icon works, but not on double click. It must be right clicked to get the following menu, and that menu will remain on screen until an option is selected: The big problem now IMO is that when I click any other tray "system" icon (Safely Remove Hardware, Volume, and Network), I get a "Windows 10" style menu for just the Network icon, no matter which tray icon is right clicked: I have not figured out any way around this yet. (It looks like it's covering a different Window; I'm not sure if it really is.) You might notice in the above two SCTT screenshots, there is a graphical "3D line" glitch (appears to the left of the Network icon). That is solved for me by increasing "Taskbar delay" in SCT; I changed from 5000 to 10000. Another issue to point out (which I'm sure is known), is that clicking on the clock doesn't do anything (left, double left, or right click). For me the main things that would make SCTT near perfect (for me anyways) is: 1) Tray "system" icons show the correct menus when right clicking and work when double clicking, 2) System Time has options to show calander, and 3) SCTT shows fonts selected for the "Scheme" for SCT config.

Weird that the taskbar delay in SCT fixed it as it literally does nothing when using SCTT. 1) The context menu's for the system tray are a very hard thing to implement. Many applications have hardcoded some weird function to show the menu's and it's hard to satisfy all applications. I will keep tweaking it to make it better and better as updates come. 2) The clock literally is something I implemented in a minute. It's just there for filling that gap and being a clock. I have plans to implement many T-Clock features into SCT so that will come soon (or not soon, we'll see how things go)! 3) Fonts are something I avoid. Because with fonts come font sizes, and it takes a lot of time to reprogram the taskbar to support font sizes. Limited font support will be added (as in: fonts but not font sizes) soon and font sizes will require a lot of time so I do not see that happening in the near future.

If the delay setting does nothing, then that didn't "solve" it. When I changed it, I killed the SCT_Taskbar.exe task, then restarted it from SCT ("Enable" button). I guess at the time I did it, it just happened to redraw without the glitch. It's since come back. Some programs that have tray icons crash SCT Taskbar. When I run pCloud Drive, I get this error: I checked the Event Logs and it doesn't generate any events. I believe this is coming from SCT_Taskbar.exe. When I click OK, SCT Taskbar closes. When I relaunch it (run SCT, click "Enable" button), the pCloud System Tray icon appears on the far right. Its context menu works!

I decided to try implementing systray from scratch - no Explorer hooks. I created a window with Shell_TrayWnd class and sent a TaskbarCreated message with C++, then redirected all WM_COPYDATA messages to my form in C#. So far I got the icons to display, they don't do anything yet though (and some of them repeat, because I forgot to filter out messages other than NIM_ADD ). Do you by any chance still have the source code for this? I'm looking for ways to improve the systray and I think this is a good starting point.

The above "Unhandled Exception" error comes up when performing a search that takes some time in FileSearchEx. (I.e., entire C: drive for some file.) Kind of weird because AFAIK it doesn't have any Tray icons. Unless it's trying to draw text on the Task Bar button, which SCTT might have problems with.

Which message specifically? "Unhandled exception occcured" or "Unhandled exception occured while drawing GUI"?
