Hey all, I really love Explorer++ and have been using it as a supplementary file browser for a while.
I was wondering, is it possible to outright replace the regular window explorer with Explorer++?
I realize, that explorer in windows is much deeper in the system than just a file browser, with dependency from dwm, file open dialogs, etc.
Is it at least possible to integrate Explorer++ more deeply into the system? For example, making it so that a browser for example would use Explorer++ to open a driectory, when you click on the "Open download in explorer" button.
Any pointers are appreciated.

It is possible. 1. Run Explorer++ as admin. 2. Go to Tools > Options 3. Check "Replace explorer for all folders (vista and later)"
And you are done. Opening Windows Explorer shortcuts will open Explorer++ instead. Only thing is that certain applications can only open Windows Explorer (like the "Open Download in Windows Explorer" options that you mention) and won't be affected.

I think the X64 applications will not be affected . Any applications that are hardcoded to open explorer (32 and 64 bits) will not be affected. If x64 applications are not affected while x86 applications are, then use x64 Explorer++.

Will be not conflicts using X64+32 version? I don't think so, since x32 applications usually use SysWOW64 and WOW6432Node instead of System32 and the actual registry keys.
