People successfully replace Windows 11 explorer with Windows 10 explorer www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAGcEULdtgwI wonder, what would happen if to take explorer from Windows 6.4 (Win10 beta)? Will it work with classic theme like that from Windows 8.1?

Will it work with classic theme like that from Windows 8.1? Windows 10's explorer is very close to Windows 11's, so it is expected to work. However, Windows (NT) 6.4's explorer is very different from the current explorer even in Windows 10, so it won't work.

The problem lies in the underlying API's. Windows Explorer, contrary to third party applications, uses the private shell API. This API is for use in a single build only and the locations and functions might change over the course of time. Because of this, older versions of Explorer would crash because they are trying to load an API that is no longer present/they are using an API that has been changed incorrectly. You could probably go a few builds back but no more than a year.

So, they are metroifying everything, getting rid of conventional theming and subpixel hinting.
Also, make more salad of visual styles (their Edge browser already cannot render fonts as good as other programs).

In other words, linuxification. A mix of different incompatible toolkits.

So, they are metroifying everything, getting rid of conventional theming and subpixel hinting. Exactly as I thought. Instead of giving us the choice of using metro or classic (Win32) programs, or even just getting rid of metro, they are still trying to shove metro down our throats even though it failed in the Windows 8 days. Have they forgotten that PCs and Laptops exist? Might as well call this "Windows Tablet Edition".
Also, is it possible to update from the leaked build to the insider build, or do I have to reinstall?

Interesting, how did you do the 2k logon window? Besides the classic theme, Win11 also completely killed the ability to use it without DWM. Screen is visible if you kill some Immersive processes (like 21H1 and before), but mouse doesn’t work at all. Not only the cursor is invisible, but also it doesn’t even move. (Noticeable when DWM was restored-the cursor remains where it was before the DWM had been killed.) This also applies in the Session 0, where DWM and visual styles are not present at all, and programs without DWM worked pretty stable in there until 20H1, even with FireDaemon ZeroInput installed. FD ZI allows keyboard input but mouse still doesn’t work at all. Maybe FireDaemon could release a update of ZeroInput that fixes this issue... hope they doesn’t limit the fix only for the session 0.

Interesting, how did you do this? Can it be ported to Win10?

Windows 11 Notepad lacks clientedge? I'm pretty sure that was removed in Windows 10 at some point, though I don't know the exact version off the top of my head (it may have been 1803, but I'm not sure).

Windows 11 Notepad lacks clientedge? Windows 11 Notepad is actually an “app”, just uninstall it and you’ll get the classic Win7 notepad back (it’s still stored in System32). For paint on the other hand, it’s the same thing, but you’ll need to copy paint (and its mui) from an earlier Windows 10 build.
