Not sure if this works anywhere else, or if its a recurring glitch but I was trying to theme my Windows 11 to look like Vista basic. So I downloaded basicthemer off GitHub and was moving my themes around. There was some controversy with CleoDesktop stealing themes,
so i was replacing my Vista theme by theme with the one by sagorpirbd. I had basicthemer applied, but wanted a consistent look everywhere else
and I had to change themes (cause I had cleo's applied). Well I clicked on a Windows XP theme I had and this was the result.

I personally find that the XP theme is doing very well. Is it a modified version of the theme of sagopirbd ? In my case, the sagopirbd XP theme with Basic Themer makes something close, with the exception of the caption button.

This is not a glitch at all, BasicThemer2 works by disabling DWM styling on windows, but not disabling DWM itself. And non-DWM visual styles are not limited to DWM's limitations like wide caption buttons. Windows before Vista didn't have DWM, so if you somehow port a XP visual style to Windows 10 and use BasicThemer2, it should look just like it was in XP.

What is strange is that the artists seem not to know the existence of Basicthemer2. I was talking about it last month to the developer of MsstyleEditor : github.com/nptr/msstyleEditor/issues/74

I wonder, what would be the advantage of turning on the classic theme by using basicthemer + renaming the Windows\Resources folder? Did anyone try this?

It depends if Windows considers that the important thing is the disabling of DWM, or just the disabling of DWM style. If it is absolutely dwm, the risk is to get the same thing as with activated DWM.

I did something similar, if you use a method like a userinit batch script which closes the theme section and use basicthemer2, some things that cannot be classic themed like "The application was unable to start correctly" it will get classic themed.

Interesting. But what about not closing the theme section but renaming the Resources folder like here: www.winclassic.net/thread/121/classic-theme-dwm-disabler ?

I am correcting the buttons size of the title bar. For the moment I still have problems linked to the conversion of the BMP original pictures to transparent PNG pictures (I obtain a issue with the highlighting).
What is good is that we are on the point (thanks to the excellent work of VPRVNC) to obtain a very good XP visual style. Once this work is done, it is quite easy to create the variants of the style (olive green, silver, royal, zune, embedded).
EDIT: It would be good to move this subject in the "Visual Styles" section.

I'd say the first realistic Windows XP theme for Windows 10/11 next to Windows Blinds!
(How does one move topics to other fourms)
