1. Install ntvdmx64: github.com/leecher1337/ntvdmx642. Replace %1 is a 16-bit application. You do not have permissions to execute 16-bit applications in kernel32.dll.mui, kernelbase.dll.mui, and ntdll.dll.mui with custom text 3. Disable 16-bit application access in group policy editor 4. Reboot 5. Notes: Secure boot is required to disabled. Also you might have some trouble finding the files you need to build ntvdmx64. A lot of them are copyrighted. I'm pretty sure the results of the build aren't copyrighted but I don't want to risk it linking to it here. You could use winevdm i guess but that didn't work well for me. When I used winevdm Windows would seem to "forget" it was installed a lot so I would have to execute programs through its terminal. I also still got the "This app can't run on your PC" a lot. Note that you can still get the "This app can't run on your PC" a lot even with ntvdmx64. For example, if you try and execute something through explorer that's built for ARM Windows on 64/32 bit Windows and vice versa, or if you have certain things with an MZ header that aren't meant to be executed (at least not normally) like MUI files or DLL files. Editing: maybe I should have tested this in full first before posting. It doesn't like my modified MUI i guess? It shows this instead? Anyways, still kind of better than that metro dialog i guess Edit 2: read my reply

Okay I figured it out, for some reason RH truncates some of the MUI when compiling the script, so I used RisohEditor instead and it works perfectly.

Things is, its not the best way of running DOS games, NTVDM is really bad for launching DOS stuff...

I reinstalled a new version of NTVDMX64, it works perfectly, the DOS executables open directly. The issue with WSL2 is fixed : now just uncheck "Use Legacy Console" option and everything works in modern console except DOS Consoles (only downside is that any DOS console will opens in a separate console).

My command prompt folder ; for some reason, the PIF files do not appear with the icon yet specified in the properties.
