I see. That makes sense. Thank you for the help, my system is back to what it was before. Here's a .theme file for Windows 98 style classic theme.

Quick hint for how themes are generally named: 'Windows Classic' is the Windows 9x default color scheme (teal background, grey windows and dark blue - bright blue title bar) 'Windows Standard' is the Windows 2000 default color scheme (blue background, beige windows and dark blue - light blue title bar) <- the one named 'Classic' in Windows 7
EDIT: Thought I'd give some background on where these names come from. Windows 2000 was the first consumer version of Windows to feature both themes. In Windows 2000 they were named as described above, with 'Windows Standard' being the new default theme.

That being said, if you do decide to use my .theme file (of course check its script first) feel free to rename it to Windows Classic instead of what it is, to go along with the Windows Sandard (2000) one.

herit://that1cutie I've got around to exporting the raw colors from W98 to make appropriate themes. Version 1.9: - Renamed Classic theme to W2K, to clear up any classic/standard naming confusion, similar to the suggestions provided by leet. - Added W98 and W95 themes. - Adjusted accent color (ColorizationColor) appropriately for each theme.

toprak I'm not certain, I've not yet used Windhawk. But try out some mods and see what happens!

K4sum1 Most of the features work fine in Windows 8, but you will have the issue that the top of the Explorer will have a white strip, because the ribbon menu is not disabled. If you know of any good open source tool to fix this, let me know. toprak Here are some Windhawk mods I've tried on W10 (21H2), that I like, and seem to work well: * Classic Explorer Treeview * Classic List Group Fix * Classic Task Dialog Fix * Classic UWP Fix * Clientedge (3D border) in choosen apps * DWM Unextend Frames * Explorer 32px Icons * Fix Classic Theme Maximized Windows * Icon Resource Redirect (Works great with W7's imageres.dll) * Message Box Fix

Only thing I know of is OldNewExplorer but it's closed source. Maybe ExplorerPatcher could do it, but I haven't looked into it.

Simply delete or rename EXPLORER_RIBBON UIFILE from ExplorerFrame.dll for a permanent disabling of the ribbon

Jevil7452 That sounds pretty good, however I can't seem to implement this. I can't find an open source tool that lets me edit DLL resources automatically, without user intervention. While RisohEditor seems to have the capability to do this modification, it also has a programming language called EGA, there seems to be no way to automatically run an EGA file on a DLL from the commandline. Does anyone know of anything else?

IIRC Windows has a step-recorder function. I'm curious if from command line could be loaded RisohEditor, then the step-playback function get called to interact with RisohEditor and perform the specific modification. I hope this comment is helpful and not ignorant. It's not open source i don't think, but perhaps something similar is.

The steps recorder saves the recording into a .mht file, and is more so intended for troubleshooting purposes rather than UI Automation. But i heard that AutoHotkey or AutoIt can be used for UI Automation if I'm not mistaken. Maybe something can be done with these?

Have you found a way to automate the installation of Windhawk mods, without user intervention ? I haven't looked into it yet. I suspect something could be done with the portable version of Windhawk. IIRC Windows has a step-recorder function. I hope this comment is helpful and not ignorant. It's not open source i don't think, but perhaps something similar is. Not a bad idea. I'm fine using Windows' inbuilt closed source components (the OS is inherently proprietary, after all). But i heard that AutoHotkey or AutoIt can be used for UI Automation if I'm not mistaken. Maybe something can be done with these? AutoHotkey would work for this as well, I'm sure. If I can implement the UI automation non-jankily, it should land somewhen.
