As you all know, the taskbar is kind of screwed up with classic theme but I just found a little tool called true launch bar.
I don't know yet if it's able to fully replace the task bar and if it can be made to look and feel like a real task bar but it might be worth a try.
So far I didn't really get very far, all I have is a start button but there doesn't seem to be a way to trigger the start menu (let alone classic shell's start menu) with this button (the upper bar is true launch bar, on Windows 7...)

anixx The fact that Explorer's taskbar is screwed up with Classic Theme is a well known fact around the community. It happens because Explorer was designed with modern UI frameworks, like Fluent design, which were not developed for rendering without visual styles. Your method uses ExplorerPatcher but that is not a real solution. EP only makes the taskbar render like normal Windows 10 theme. Your setup also includes Open-Shell, which is the thing that makes it look more Classic. though not fully like Classic Theme. So it is basically a mingle mash of things that modify Explorer, not an actual replacement for the taskbar.

One can claim that flat buttons are not classic enough, but I am satisfied. This comes with a function to see progress indicators on task buttons. I definitely will not call this look "screwed".
One also can make the buttons 3D using Taskbowfree.

I've think I've used an earlier version of this in the past. Does it have it's own system tray?

No, it doesn't seem to have its own system tray and what's even worse, there seems to be no way to display minimized windows as buttons, which is one of the most important things of a taskbar. But I don't quite get it yet, because on the one hand it really tries to be somewhat of a replacement for the taskbar, so it offers a time and date plugin that can be moved to the right end of the task bar (just like on the real taskbar) and there is a "turn off" plugin which lets you add a feature to turn your computer off to your fake start menu etc. so it's kind of weird that they forgot about the most needed things of a taskbar. Maybe I'm missing something.

I use Retrobar and it works very well replacing the default broken classic taskbar of Windows 10, although it doesn't work as good when replacing the main metro taskbar. Owing to that you could follow anixx's excellent tutorial to enable classic theme before explorer runs, but in case you go through problems you could follow what I wrote on his topic to enable it before explorer runs, so Retrobar can replace the broken taskbar rather than the metro one.
