Does anyone know what file governs this dialog? I'd like to customize it - namely replace the User's Files with "My Documents" and make respected changes to the dialog so they better reflect what it was like in W2k, as best as I can at least. Does anyone know what dll or mui file it is please? Thank you. EDIT: It appears you can add/remove/edit the desktop icons via the registry according to this guide: www.tenforums.com/tutorials/6942-add-remove-default-desktop-icons-windows-10-a.html Turns out, the guide was for if you wanted to activate/deactive an icon on the desktop, not from this dialog. I was dungoofed. EDIT2: I found title of the dialog in deskcpl.mui. I'm thinking, could it be in shell32.dll.mui? Found it, it is.

What I got so far: Looks like the User's Files icon is hardcoded - most likely they just up and altered the original "My Documents" entry. I can't seem to edit it via the shell32.dll.mui, so is it in the registry? OK, this one I'm truly stomped with. EDIT: Did some digging in a x64 XP VM - UsersFiles was originally the Shared Documents folder (CLSID: {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}) . My Documents/Documents folder still uses the same CLSID ({450d8fba-ad25-11d0-98a8-0800361b1103}), so no, they just swapped the folder CLSIDs around for this dialog. Still trying to work out if it's possible to undo that.

I remember it being called something like "Web Extension" or something. Try searching that on regedit
