I tried to figure it out myself but clearly I've done something wrong. I did get a favorites button into the left panel of file explorer, but; first of all, it has no list under it, instead it seems to just act as a folder with shortcuts inside of it to the desktop and downloads, and second of all, it's got this odd line under it that I can't begin to figure out how to get rid of. This is what my failed attempt looks like. Note the odd line under it, and the lack of an actual list under it.Also on a side note my navigation buttons are misaligned if anybody knows how to fix that, it's a WindowBlinds skin. And this is what the actual Windows 7 favorites drop down looked like.

You forgot to open the Favorites dropdown, you can open it by clicking the arrow to the left of the Favorites' icon. As for the line, how did you try to get the Favorites tab back? Did you use WinAeroTweaker? Are you using Windows 11?

Did you use WinAeroTweaker? Are you using Windows 11? I have tried to open it, clicking the arrow just makes the arrow disappear, but still shows no list. As for how I got it back, I actually don't remember but it was probably Winaero Tweaker, I've used it for a lot of things, and yes I am on Windows 11.

Well, from WinAero Tweaker, the only thing you can do for now is to rename Quick Access to Favorites and also change its icon

if you are using the real favorites, it's broken. i currently use a renamed quick access and it's fine for me. i recommend changing the name in i think it was in windows.storage.dll.mui (if yoi rename or change the icon from winaero tweaker you get the double quick access bug)

After poking around the registry and doing some testing, it seems like the way explorer displays items in the navigation pane has changed since windows 7 and 8. Starting with windows 10, explorer no longer allows anything other than folders to be displayed in the navigation pane under any drop down, rendering explorers old Favorites shell folder useless. Perhaps a windhawk mod could restore this old functionality if one were that insane to go down that route.
