Not sure how well-known this is, but you can actually change which items appear on the Places Bar (the left bar in legacy open/save dialogs) through the group policy. Policy: User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > File Explorer > Common Open File Dialog > Items displayed in the Places bar My personal options (like Windows XP): Item 1: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Item 2: %USERPROFILE%\Desktop Item 3: %USERPROFILE%\Documents Item 4: shell:::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} Item 5: shell:::{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C} Here it is in action:
