So several months ago I did some testing with running Windows XP's explorer.exe and various other essential DLL's under WINE with pretty good success. It was basically just copying them and having them have first priority over the default wine dlls. I also copied the whole tree of the registry, which causes issues that would have to be sorted out, but that was too tedious for me. It works surprisingly well for what it is, but it is by no means stable or usable at the moment. I am not continuing this project though, I am sharing it here in hopes that someone with more skills would be interested enough to take on this project. If you make any progress on this please let me know. Video demonstrating it in action

Impressive. I did recall that early wine versions were able to somehow display the eyplorer taskbar under some condirions. It wasnt functional at all tough
