I'm having a silly problem, I can't change the Notepad icon. I'm trying to put the XP one in there, I used CustomizerGod to get into the exe file but it says "The parameter is incorrect." every time. I'm using the .ico directly from the XP version of Notepad. I took ownership of notepad.exe, but not the whole system32 folder. I'd like to avoid doing that if possible. I notice when I drag the Win10 notepad.exe to the desktop, it no longer has the .ico. I'm thinking the file is found somewhere else, but I don't know where in the system to look for it. If I'm on the right track or if it's a permissions issue, I'd love to know.

Then import that icon to your notepad file using resource hacker again(if you are on Windows 10 version 1809 or older, file at C:\Windows\System32\en-US named notepad.exe.mui)(if you are on Windows 10 1903 or newer, file at C:\Windows\Systemresources named notepad.exe.mun) then save it. Clear your icon cache afterwards to make sure that it will appear properly.

Thanks both, I had figured this out accidentally a few days ago but never reported back that it was solved. I knew there was something more to it when I dragged notepad.exe to the desktop and there was no app icon anymore. XP one had the icon anywhere, revealing the trick. Just missed where the file was located at first.
