Starting with Windows 10 version 1809, "Automatically pick an accent color from my background" picks a much darker color for title bars and window borders: Compared to 1803 and earlier: files.catbox.moe/i1gi3n.mp4If I use the classic Color and Appearance Control Panel explorer.exe shell:::{ED834ED6-4B5A-4bfe-8F11-A626DCB6A921} -Microsoft.Personalization\pageColorization and re-select the "Automatic" color, title bars and window borders has the same color as in version 1803 and earlier. But if I restart explorer.exe, it switches to the behavior as if I check "Automatically pick an accent color from my background" in the Settings app: files.catbox.moe/2d5aih.mp4This makes me think there have to be a way to make the older behavior permanent. Has anyone figured out a way to do it? Thread on TenForums from 2018: www.tenforums.com/customization/123885-accent-color-bug-1809-how-set-title-bar-color-manually.html

My guess is that Microsoft changed how the color engine works because the color intensity slider also stopped working.
Dunno if you can fix it.

It's worth noting that the 1809+ behavior selects different colors for metro and DWM colorization. The metro color is brighter (possibly the old one?) and the DWM color is darker. When selecting a color manually, the DWM color and the metro color will be the same.

When selecting a color manually, the DWM color and the metro color will be the same. Feedback Hub and Cortana title bars follows the Metro color but the window borders follows the DWM color. Zoom out to see the borders are different. However, some colors will pick different Metro and DWM title bar colors in version 1607-1803 like in the first post of this thread: www.tenforums.com/customization/123885-accent-color-bug-1809-how-set-title-bar-color-manually.htmlYou can use the classic Color and Appearance to re-select the "Automatic" color to reproduce this in 1809 and later, but I have to say that, if you restart explorer.exe, Win32 title bars and window borders will switch to the new color: files.catbox.moe/j1lfd7.mp4

You can try AeroBlend, it will apply the system accent color based on the wallpaper and even let's you set the color manually per wallpaper: www.carthagosoft.net/AeroBlend.php

Also, it will lead to lacks of contrast between certain glyphs or text and the background. Non-hovering volume slider in the volume flyout: Color for text like "Manage notifications", "Expand/collapse", or "Clear all notifications" in action center are too close to the background: Same goes for the "New" text in the Start menu: Windows's "Automatic" color (both by using the Settings app and the classic Color and Appearance), where the "New" text is easily legible: EDIT: Added additional screenshots showing img1.jpg, automatic color selected using the Color and Appearance Control Panel, and the Start menu with the "New" text: What I want are some ways to make the old behavior for the automatic color selection persist, even if explorer.exe is restarted.Has anyone tried interfering with explorer.exe to switch the behavior?

I decided to post an extra reply so it can be notified. A Windows 10 mod based on build 1904x has the default theme file set to use the auto accent color. youtu.be/gj7FF75b3kw?si=qun4Aadh72RqnbbI&t=215 at 3:36-3:39 of this video you can see the older title bar color (light title bar and can have black text on windows that doesn't use ribbon UI, and darker taskbar as in version 1803 and earlier) but it switches to the new color once explorer.exe is started. As the auto accent color relies on explorer.exe, has anyone tried reverse engineering or did something to explorer.exe to switch to the old auto accent color permanently?
