heya! this took me a hot minute to setup (about a month) but ive transformed windows 10 22h2 to windows 2000 almost perfectly!
the time period i was aiming for here was 2004-2006, ik not many ppl used windows 2000 at this time, but a handful did even up until 2015
i based this off a win xp destkop from 2005 i saw on deviantart
www.deviantart.com/chibiangel86/art/Azumanga-Daioh-20084513
here's all the programs i used to achieve this look:
RetroBar (for the taskbar)
OpenShell (for the startmenu)
Classic Explorer (for the explorer toolbar and sum other tweaks)
WindHawk
WindowBlinds (win2000 theme by crabsynth ) ik this is paidware but u can get around that through.. methods
IconPackager (for icons)
ResourceHacker & CustomizerGod (for various tweaks)
3RVX
Iconoid
Winaero Tweaker
and lastly, some explorer tweaks, dlls, and registry edits from this site
some software:
Pale Moon, a very good browser that is super fast for my 8 gb laptop, and also really customizable! here i made it look like firefox 2.0, i even installed some old toolbars from the late 2000's like a flippin myspace autologin
Spotiamp, a fork (i think?) of spotify from 2013 made to look like winamp. bcoz its so old, some features like searching for songs dont work, but other than that, its still very much usable! its even compatible with original winamp skins, i got mine from here: skins.webamp.org/ another problem though, i think its only for spotify premium users which is unfortunate, so if u want an alternative, u can use WACUP
MPC (Media Player Classic) a video player that looks like retro media player, not much to say here, its very simple to use and not clunky unlike whatever the heck microsoft made for win 10
SAKURA Editor, an advanced text editor that looks pretty neat
my winver (custom)
some retro software:
IrfanView, an image viewer (this version from 2004) that still works perfectly. ive never ran into any problems with it
America Online 8.0 & AIM
found it on archive.org, the software itself still works and u can run it but its not usable anymore.
HyperCam 2
a recorder everyone used to use back in the day. still usable and u can even default to it somewhat
WinRar 3.40, a version of winrar from 2004. ive got a mixed opinion on it, most of the time it works but on rare occassions sumthin will be incompatible so i have to use 7 zip
the windows 9x calculator & mspaint app, both work no problem
Windows Movie Maker 2.1, u can still use this but unfortunately it doesnt support editing mp4 files
Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0, ive used it several times and it has so far worked perfectly.
ROBLOX Client 0,3,368,0, an old version of the game ROBLOX from march of 2007, slightly period inaccurate, but any version of the client from 2006 is currently lost media and is being searched for. id bet this version and a version from late 2006 are pretty much the same though. u can make and play games, and it even works with multiplayer!
