Hey, Thanks to all the infos here i was finally able to get icons in the W7 commandbar (also added the vista favorite bar menu) I wanted to know if it was also possible to port those things (i am asking for W7 but if it's possible for W10 it can probably work for 7 too): -Dotted tree view (Vista style) In Vista you could turn off "Simple Folder View" and you would get the tree to display with lines and dots (just like the tree in regedit for exemple) this option was removed in W7, (i know that i can enable XP classic tree look with OpenShell but thats not what i am looking for) -Classic view Control Panel Real classic view in W7 and up Control Panel ? (what i mean by the true classic view are the medium icons + black text, displaying it like a normal folder) -Finally clock/sound/network tooltip In vista you had those nice tooltips when hovering over sound/network or clock on the system tray Thx

hmm, i think classic view control panel is possible but idk about tooltip and dotted tree view Dotted tree view was done previously by Aubymori's Aerexplorer Windhawk mod. It was removed as it was believed that it was NOT enabled by default (apparently, to enable dotted tree view, you had to do some registry edits?)

As for the first one, maybe you could do stuff with windhawk.net/mods/classic-explorer-treeview as a base, but ideally a dedicated AHK script or mod should be created. As for the third one, i know that copying Vista's timedate.cpl to 7 got it to show up there, but it doesn't work anymore on Windows 10. Could be useful i guess.

In vista it was disabled by default yes but could be turned on by simply unticking "Simple folder view" in folder options (or setting the FriendlyTree value to 0 in the registry) ill took a look at those 2 windhawk mods to see if i can get it to work on W7 with the vista style Good to know about timedate.cpl, since it's working on W7 i should be able to use it, sad that it can't be made working on W10 in case i ever need to switch OS in the future Thx all

Ok after messing with timedate.cpl in RH i managed to port the tooltip to windows 7 version of timedate.cpl so maybe it can also be ported to the version of W8 and W10, here are the resource files if you know where the network/volume/battery flyout are stored i could also try to port them vista timedate flyout.rar (7.27 KB)

They are stored in pnidui.dll/van.dll, sndvolsso.dll, and batmeter.dll respectively. The displaying of them is managed by stobject.dll to my knowledge.

Also, it might be actually portable to 10. There's also an UIFILE in it's timedate.cpl(.mun) Edit: Nvm, it seems like Explorer doesn't use the UIFILE at all anymore?

Pretty sure that Clock behavior is managed by explorer.exe itself. Looking into there seems like the behavior got completely removed (ClockButton has a function to get the Tooltip text for a native, non DUI Tooltip class in 21H2 explorer atleast). While looking into stobject, some of the message tooltips are still DirectUI based (Battery Meter for example). Maybe these could get restored?

After replacing stobject.dll, only sound tray icon, tooltip and volume control (volume mixer will crash) can work relatively well on Windows 10. Also, safety remove hardware tray icon can work well by replacing hotplug.dll, but it won't display balloon notification when you eject a device. Instead, it will give you a message box.
(I haven't try batmeter.dll whether work or not)
List of didn't work or work but unstable: ActionCenter.dll - Won't display - Vista's stobject.dll lack its functions. (edit: can anyone restore wscntfy.dll to work?) bthprops.cpl - Can display but unstable - When you startup the Windows, it will usually display in the hidden icon area. But after a few minutes, it will disappear when your cursor just move to it. pnidui.dll - Won't display - regsvr32 failed to load it cause explorer didn't load it. timedate.cpl - Completely didn't work - Unknown reason
