Why is this site using, even using ProBoards? I want to suggest a change to the site's backend to better ones like maybe simplemachines, phpBB, or heck even Invision Community they are all way better than ProBoards... maybe you could self-host? Who knows maybe I'm just being plain stupid here I never hosted a site before but perhaps, if you that ProBoards too limiting than you can always switch I find it a bit slow and buggy. R.O.B. maybe it would help with theming and making the site better as a whole its just a suggestion though.

It would take absolute ages to get this site back to normal,I and everyone else on this forum like this site just with proboards, I have experienced the admin panel for proboards and it is quite Eastport once you get used to it, self hosting would cost loads, are all of those options free? Have you ever used them? I don’t see a point to this

See this is why I hate ProBoards, why can't we have something better as the backend?

Personally, I find that BroBoard works well overall. I think it would be interesting to find a way, in case of a sudden problem with ProBoard, to not lose the forum, whether it is the members or the content.

Yes that can also happen so why don't R.O.B. not try out other stuff while keeping ProBoards.

Yeah we need good back solution the things I listed are free he could probably back up the forum's data and sync it to the new one as a back up. I'm not a huge fan of proboards I know something may happen one day so who knows just look I was unable tp use the site for over an hour, we need a back up he has all of his eggs in 1 basket.

Not gonna lie, this scared the crap out of me when it happened lol So I have obviously had a lot to say about ProBoards over the years, and this is a topic that I have certainly thought about, and even looked into. To make a long story short, there is no official way to transfer from ProBoards to another forum platform. Even if there were a tool to do so, scraping the forum would be against the ProBoards terms of service. If we were to hypothetically switch to another platform, we would be starting entirely from square one. No content would be transferred over, and everyone would need to re-register their account. And while we could always keep the existing ProBoards forum open as a read-only resource, this would obviously still be a major, major change that would likely come with unintended consequences. If I had started WinClassic today (or even just a few years later than I had) I would have definitely gone with a self-hosting option. However, since we are already established on ProBoards, a change like this would be extremely difficult. I would not want to make such a jump unless the community was on-board with it, or if something drastic enough were to happen that would warrant it. But as it stands now, I currently don't plan on moving over to another platform.

From what I understand any content made/published on ProBoards is owned by the users themselves and therefore all content cannot be downloaded by a single individual like an admin. This is honestly just a scummy way to keep forums within their ecosystem (which sucks). I do not feel like we have the flexibility with PB to do what we want. This goes for both admins and users.

leet Afterwards, almost all members with a significant number of posts are active, and can therefore export their data individually.

leet Afterwards, almost all members with a significant number of posts are active, and can therefore export their data individually. This would not be of much use. You cannot recreate the forums content with just the posts from members who have a lot of posts. A lot of posts are contextual and only make sense in the context of everyone's posts together.

Yeah, only option is to get a whole load of admins or can’t you just copy all the css code and put it on the new forum? I’ve experienced proboards and it’s quite annoying, one of the main things being no guest downloads, it might solve the bots if we move, something that also annoys me about proboards is the fact that you can’t change the board icons without a plugin or css, I don’t mind a few days downtime, only thing is we need to get in contact with all people on this forum to recreate their posts in the new forum, best way is via discord, either all of that or stay on this forum
