In Windows Vista the classic theme features shading of the currently selected sort header, just like apps like WinRAR and Everything do. This behavior was carried over from XP, but only worked in classic theme. Starting with 7, it's deleted from the OS entirely. I believe this can be restored however, because the Luna10 theme by vaporvance has it. I have tried to ask them how they did this, but never got a response. If it's possible to restore using shellstyle.dll, it should be entirely possible, as the classic theme is still governed by the shellstyle.dll in C:\Windows\system32. I can't make heads or tails of this file to look into it myself, but if someone else can pull this apart it would be greatly appreciated. It helps a lot with eye discipline, which is one of the main reasons to use classic theme.

Do you mean this shaded row in the listview? I'm not sure how this works since it doesn't seem consistent in 7+, but it still appears in some programs

That first screenshot is exactly what I want. It seems like some programs implement this function independently, for me Everything and WinRAR always have it regardless of theme or OS (but still respects theme settings). XP had it regardless of theme, Vista under classic theme only for some reason. I think maybe Vista used SysListView in classic theme, but obviously that settings doesn't enable this in newer versions.
As an aside this is the first time I've ever seen anyone with that XP photos icon in the folder on a newer version, I've always wondered about that. I never saw it much because classic theme disables those on XP.

I'm not sure how to completely restore this without a third party program, but the shaded listview and folder watermark can be restored with qttabbar in the legacy folder view The watermark works like it did in xp and changes depending on the folder Unfortunately though, I don't know how to restore this without qttabbar, I personally like the tabs so it's not an issue for me, but I was wondering if there were other options for this
