This is incredible! I thought any explorer past vista wouldn't have been possible
This isn't a request or anything, but would it theoretically be possible to use a wrapper to load older explorer windows?
Actually yeah, Vista's and XP x64's explorers both work with the explorer7 wrapper. However, we're gonna focus on getting explorer7 fully finished and 1.0'd before we start branching out to other explorers and get more work done. But right now they do run and work. (Vista's start menu doesn't open right now and XP x64's barely works) For WinXP taskbar, no wrapper is needed.

. Your system's msstyle (NOT THE EXPLORER7 THEME FOLDER MSSTYLES) needs to be named something other than "aero.msstyles" (like aero10_seven.msstyles). Then, you use the windhawk mod on the 3rd reply (my reply), and that should fix it.

Just redirecting shell32 is gonna result in a very broken explorer.

Sidebar stil working, explorer too, thumbnail ok on pictures, (only thing : even with autohide taskbar set in Windows 7 taskbar , i got the 7 orb over the retrobar when i'm clinking on it.) using : windhawk, windows 11 23H2 , Aero10 msstyle . i still get all problem i got before ^^ (bad borders)

vruh2 I did it! But it didn't have any visual styles? Was I did something wrong?
Attachments:
You need the appropriate msstyles. Here's one made by vaporvance which should have all classes (make sure to remove or rename "theme" folder and use this as your system msstyles):

Ex7 handles the start menu and taskbar. You're running software the overrides both (Retrobar and Open Shell).

To anyone still facing black screen / not launching / crash issues, we've released a hotfix DLL on the discord. Please report any issues. This'll probably be soon moved to the GitHub releases page.

Here it is running. I don't have anything set up icons or theme wise so it kinda looks like crap but you get the point
That looks better than I was expecting, I think vista's explorer can "run" on newer windows by itself, but that looks perfect
Oh and just curious, does vista's explorer work with the classic start menu setting or does that rely on something else?
None of the start menus in the vista explorer work ATM. We haven't done much research on the classic start menu, but wiktor has already hacked the regular Vista menu to open up, however it's not ideal and once we start looking into older explorers, it'll properly be accounted for.
