your are right ^^ Should i put a theme on the theme folder of ex7forw8 ? i would like to test with beta 2 vista X64 version .
I dont understand which "theme folder " to use
The one in ex7forw8 ?
The one in the Windows 7 / windows/ ressources / themes?
The one in Windows 8/10/11?
Sorry for the clarity issue, when i say "theme" folder i mean the explorer7 one. When i say "system msstyles" that's the theme you set in control panel or something.

That looks better than I was expecting, I think vista's explorer can "run" on newer windows by itself, but that looks perfect
Oh and just curious, does vista's explorer work with the classic start menu setting or does that rely on something else?
None of the start menus in the vista explorer work ATM. We haven't done much research on the classic start menu, but wiktor has already hacked the regular Vista menu to open up, however it's not ideal and once we start looking into older explorers, it'll properly be accounted for. I understand, I can't wait to see how much this progresses, and thanks again for all the work you guys have put in

W7's explorer is so much faster than W10's explorer. Awesome stuff, hats off to all of you.

This can be pretty useful if Microsoft ever decides to replace the normal explorer executable with a UWMP/MS Store version of it.

I haven't tested anything, but does this allow for a "true" Windows 7 classic theme, or is it just Aero? I remember the Windows 8 version of this and I believe you were restricted to the Aero theme in that.

Explorer.exe draws the start menu and taskbar. The explorer window you see is drawn by shell32 and explorerframe, that's why it's unaffected.

I remember the Windows 8 version of this and I believe you were restricted to the Aero theme in that. explorer7 supports Classic and Basic themes alongside the normal Aero theme. It does not seem to work properly in Classic theme. I have installed it in both Windows 8.1 and 10 (straight from official MS ISOs, no updates/patches or other tweaks besides enable Classic), and in both cases it totally disregards the patch. Windows 8.1 the start screen returns and the taskbar is distorted, in 10 the taskbar still has a glossy look but is broken the same way it is on a standard install otherwise, and it reverts to the 10 start menu. Unfortunately it also re-enables immersive context menus, which explorer7 otherwise disables. Unless extra steps are necessary, this does not work properly.
It is worth noting however that when applying high contrast themes in 8.1 at least, the start menu is unthemed. Interesting that Aero Lite falls back on it, but real classic rejects it.

File explorer isn't handled by explorer.exe, as such, explorer7 only handles the taskbar/start menu

File Explorer is out of scope in part due to how it works - explorer.exe itself is not actually all that responsible for it. As for the context menu bug, we are aware and will be seeking to fix it prior to Milestone 3 (the Win11-targeted release).

By the way, the immersive menus of the sound icon have not been removed yet, but this can be solved by replacing the file (I think)
