I wanted to change the startup sound to the Windows 7 startup... and the option is not in the sounds part of control panel! I looked it up, everything says to look for "Windows Logon". It's not there! I've attached a picture. Anyone know another way to fix this?! Attachments:

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then click on AppEvents, then EventLabels, then you should find the WindowsLogon, WindowsLogoff, or WindowsUnlock registry keys, click on one of them, and you should see a DWORD called ExcludeFromCPL, set it to 0. To change startup sound, the best way to do so is to use Winaero tweaker

OK, thanks. For the Windows 7 users: Is the attached file the startup sound (like I remember it) or the login sound (which is how Win7Simu does it)? I haven't used real Windows 7 in years, so I have no idea.

I have a Windows 7 iso and VirtualBox, but it broke on me. I get an error saying there's an issue querying virtual memory. I uninstalled then installed it from the official site, but it still won't work right. No idea what it means or how to fix it. Attachments:

Most likely vbox triggered its antitamper thing it has. Use vmware for vms, vbox isn't good on windows anyway.

I haven't used real Windows 7 in years, so I have no idea. That one is the startup sound. Also, starting with Windows Vista, the startup sound is embedded in a system file rather than the Media folder: - Windows Vista - 10 version 1809:
%windir%\System32\imageres.dll
- Windows 10 version 1903 and later including Windows 11:
%windir%\SystemResources\imageres.dll.mun
You could also use Resource Hacker to manually modify these.

For me, the easiest is just using Sound Manager. It not only enables the startup, shutdown and logging sounds, but also makes them customisable with an easy GUI. github.com/ORelio/Sound-Manager
