But his point is that it isn't compatible with the VirtualBox VHD. It's the most basic HDD, it should be compatible with it. That it's incompatible with some IDE laptop doesn't say anything. Literally all Linux and Windows OS's are compatible with VirtualBox and it's HDD. And ReactOS should be too. Tested this BTW and this is not true. ReactOS IS compatible with the VirtualBox VHD.

Looked into it: Nothing in Linux is closed source. Nothing. Though what you see alot is that hardware manufacturers make closed source drivers which are included in some linux distributions

not 100% of the kernel is open unless you want to go back to 1997 versions of redhat you have all these binary modules necessary to get linux to work that are not open.

You mean the closed-source proprietary (tainted) kernel modules for certain hardware? Not only they're not actually a part of the linux kernel, but absolutely no one forces you to use them. Either use an existing fully free distro (like Trisquel), or make your own. Or just compile the kernel yourself.

I do want to address one thing though. The point where ReactOS got "merged" with the Wine emulator. I think its a sad turn for such an awesome project, it could've been really good now. What's also sad is the slow pace of development in ReactOS currently. I don't notice a single change from the last time I tried it (like 3 years ago?).

There is no unofficial fork of Reactos either all the old devs that were awesome were kicked out of the project tinykrnl is Alex Ionescus masterpiece until 2008 reactos had pretty rapid progress since then its been stuck in limbo. If we want to revive reactos we need to assemble the old team from 2008 and let Alex Ionescu lead the project under a different name , it can't go wrong then.

Don't you think that maybe, just maybe, if they actually wanted to work on ReactOS, they would've done exactly that? Turns out people get bored and tired of their old projects. Get over it.

Discussing the slow state of ReactOS's development is one thing, but this thread is devolving further and further into complete misinformation. Locked to prevent further spread of such misinformation.
