Yeah I'm running on Windows 10 and super confused about the wording of what you just said and the tutorial. It didn't work because I confused myself. Is there a version of the tutorial for Windows 10 with those steps in mind? Simplified: 1. Create a task in task scheduler. 2. Check "Run with highest privileges". 3. Go to the "triggers" tab, click "New...". 4. In the dropdown context menu, select "At logon of any user". 5. Go to the "Actions" tab, and click "New..." again. 6. Click "Browse", browse to the directory where you have the program "ClassicThemeTray.exe", and select it, click "OK". 7. In the "Add arguments" text box put " /enable " (obviously no quotes) in there. 8. If you have a laptop, go to the "Conditions" tab and uncheck "Start the task only if the computer is on AC power". 9. Click OK. 10. You now have a Classic Theme task that starts on startup without a UAC prompt on every startup.

Thank you, I did all of that except adding the "/enable" argument. About to test it out.
Did all that, no luck. Tasks I create never seem to work for some reason, even when following exact instructions.

Tasks I create never seem to work for some reason, even when following exact instructions. Here's another way to start the task on startup: 1. Open regedit 2. Go to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run 3. Create a String value, the value (not name, it can be whatever you want) should be " schtasks.exe /run /tn "Insert your task name here with quotes" " (the command without quotes).

Just tried that. Still isn't working. I don't get it. Do the spaces at the beginning and the end of the command need to be there? Either way I used WinAeroTweaker so I have a shortcut to the directory it's in so I can do it myself in just a couple extra clicks. Thanks anyway, everyone, I appreciate it.

No, the spaces do not need to be there. I just added them so that the quotes could be separated easier from the command.

Okay, then I did it right and it didn't work. I was just making sure because I didn't think they should have been included. Thanks for the help.

I tried this today on a fresh install of Windows 10 20H2. it doesn't seem to do anything. The icon changes but nothing happens. Do you need other things installed for this switcher to work?

It doesn't instantly switch. All programs opened after you switch will have the classic theme applied.

Are you sure you opened a new program? If you opened a browser, you first need to close all browser windows for it to take effect. If you were opening a file explorer window, check this post: www.winclassic.net/post/6468

Microsoft detects that ClassicThemeTray blocks access to the theme handles in memory. That's basically blocking out system processes which Windows Defender blocks (ClassicThemeTray removes all rights for the theme handle which DWM uses to draw windows, which forces it to manually draw the classic theme). This makes a lot of sense from Microsoft's perspective. But for most Classic Theme programs that means the authors are unable to release an executable that won't get flagged by most antiviruses.

i have another question how do i enable it? clicking the windows icon doesnt function... It doesn’t apply the theme to any programs already open. It only applies to newly opened programs. So close everything and reopen after enabling the theme

Install it again, change it back, and uninstall again.
