Sticking with 1809 because I can't trust current-day MS to make a bowl of cereal without setting the kitchen on fire.

But yeah, I agree, Micro$oft is STILL trying to shove metro with its inconsistent UI compared to Win32 apps down our throats. That gigantic search and address bar in File Explorer did it for me. The context menus are super inconsistent (huge in the search bar, medium in the actual window, small in the address bar) and you can't even disable it in version 2004 unlike in 1909 where a third party application was able to disable it. Custom theming is unable to theme it at all and it looks like it was designed for tablets only. I hate the way where Micro$oft is going right now.

I've only gone as far as Classic Shell with Win10, to have a proper start menu. As for the rest of the UI, I have older computers running to give me my fix there. But yeah, MS is pushing hard for mobile device, and Windows as a Service. The drastic increase in processor power, drive read speed, and RAM speed has given them more than enough slack for their spaghetti codebase. According to reliable sources, no one is allowed to refactor the code, even on their own time. Here's hoping ReactOS keeps on trucking.

I did a double-take then. Welcome to the forums Raijin, it's nice to see a familiar face on here.

According to reliable sources, no one is allowed to refactor the code, even on their own time. Here's hoping ReactOS keeps on trucking. Yeah, MS is really trying to push for mobile devices, and that awful "Windows as a Service". To me even Windows 8.1 seems more like a desktop OS than a tablet OS. Things that are tablet oriented can be easily replaced or disabled when compared to Windows 10. The move to PC Settings and the File Explorer search says it all. Don't forget about the UAC prompt and the taskbar flyouts, which are really hard to replace. I dualboot Windows 8.1 and 10, and I use Windows 8.1 as my main as it is actually a good OS, and the Classic Theme can even skin the taskbar. I just use Windows 10 to show how much of a failure it is, and for Fast Ring insider builds. Even though they could've just made Windows 10 X for tablets only, and banned manufacturers to use normal Windows 10 for tablets, and stripped away metro/UWP from Windows 10 for once and for all. But no, they didn't. Instead they just continued using metro/UWP on desktops (which is really bad) and decided to make Windows 10 a multipurpose operating system for both tablets and desktops, which is virtually impossible. Apple did it perfectly, making iOS and iPadOS for their mobile devices and MacOS for their desktops/laptops. They executed it perfectly, with MacOS having no touch elements, only mouse and keyboard, and iOS and iPadOS having lots of touch elements, and poor support for mouse. If Microsoft continues down this route of having a multi-purpose operating system, I swear my next laptop will be a Mac after Windows 8.1 EOL.
Edit: I've had enough of all this metro stuff, I'm going Linux.
Edit 2: I've found out that Linux was not for me, so I'm also sticking with 1809, the last good version of Windows that has Long term Support. (1903 was the best in my opinion, support for the Classic Theme is back, and no big File Explorer search). If anyone has a way to upgrade from 1809 Enterprise to LTSC 2019 without losing my programs and settings, let me know.

But 1809 broke classic explorer 2004 has support for it cause they added it back however you still need reiku classic context menu hack if your on x64 and rightclick on a folder or file that is not on desktop to make it work

It is no longer possible to disable the new address and search bar in build 2004. This was the last straw for me that pushed me to move to Linux. If you just want the native search and address bar in the classic theme, it's now impossible to get the old search functionality unless if you use a hack where you have to open control panel and then navigate from there. This is a hack that I don't think is necessary. To think that people are OK with inconsistency and tablet elements in an OS on a desktop baffles me. I just moved to Linux, as I've had enough and want an OS that takes advantage of and has features of modern hardware and has more modern features and more security features, and modern/better drivers. Just modern stuff in general. Windows 8.1 is now too old as well as Windows 7 and has only three years left before it dies, with no mercy as well. The chance that Microsoft will incorporate modern stuff into Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 is zero. Unless if Micro$oft makes an option for a classic UI that has flat design and uses only desktop elements for the UI (I don't think this is going to happen), than I'm going to stick with Linux.
Edit: In fact, I might as well stick to Linux after seeing my customizations to animations and themes, and that the speed and security is higher than Windows. The only place where I am still going to use Windows is in virtual machines. Also, Linux is free, so I can sell my M$ product keys to people who build their own PCs.

I've been running an older build of W10 for so long I didn't even know there was a new address bar. Or do you mean Anixx's Autohotkey script no longer removes it?
Anyways, MS continue to make W10 more trash as the years go by. Everything is dumbed down, useful features removed or trimmed down, customization is practically non-existent.
W10 isn't the product, we are.

Also, happy birthday Windows 98.

Look here to see what the new search and address bar looks like: So just use winaero.com/download.php?view.18 ribbon disabler and all will be back to normal there will be no new adress bar or searchbar it will default to the old ones

oh but it does in organize you can select menu to add to it But where? In organize there is no "search" option. Options doesn't have options to change the search box either. Looks like DLL injection is the only way, anyone develop one yet?
