As it turns out, disabling dwm in newer versions of Windows 10 causes a black screen.
This black screen is caused by sihost.exe.
The only way to get a working basic theme or classic theme without dwm.exe running is to suspend sihost.exe before killing dwm.
However, this breaks explorer so you have to sacrifice explorer to not have dwm running.
Would there be any way to remove the black screen?
