Yep, best we can do is take some ReactOS stuff and modify it so that it works with modern Windows. It's properly Open-Source. Edit: Or Windows 2000, seriously who uses that nowadays? Using the leaked source code is illegal even if it's an older version. Don't use it.

Oh wow, now that's surprising.
Still, I really wouldn't advise anyone do anything with this, as tempting as it may be. Even putting aside any moral arguments, Windows XP is still a perfectly usable OS if you know what you're doing (despite its age). And I'm sure MS isn't happy about this one bit. I expect that they'll do everything in their power to make sure this can't be utilized. Honestly, I think it's best just to avoid the trouble.
2020 has sure been a year of some crazy leaks that I never would have expected to see.

2020 has sure been a year of some crazy leaks that I never would have expected to see. Quarantine boredom had lead to (probably most) some of these likely. What’s next? Windows 7 source code leak?

I'd kinda imagine a Longhorn leak.

I think all these Windows source code leaks are intentional by Microsoft. NT4 leaked fully, W2000 leaked 90%, now XP and 2003...

That's kinda what I was thinking too. Does anyone know if the Bill Gates conspiracy stuff was included in the original leak, or if it was added after the fact? Perhaps a disgruntled former-MS employee or something is behind this particular leak? I dunno, that's kind of a shot in the dark at this point. It could be many things. Also, a Win7 source leak could be absolutely devastating for Microsoft. That's way, way closer to Windows 10 than XP is, and there are already concerns about security holes being discovered for Win10 through this leak. I think all these Windows source code leaks are intentional by Microsoft. NT4 leaked fully, W2000 leaked 90%, now XP and 2003... Was the Win2k leak that big? I seem to remember hearing that it was only around 15-20% of the entire code. Thought, I really don't remember where I got that number from, so I could very well be wrong. In any case, it seems that 4chan's /g/ board has actually gotten the thing to compile, and they were even able to successfully boot it to the desktop! The only other time I can recall that happening with leaked Windows code is with OpenNT, and that was an ancient codebase that needed a lot of work before it could be considered usable by today's standards.

Then why has microsoft not “leaked” 1.01,2.03,3.0,3.1...and all the versions in between and before? I would at least think that Microsoft would release the 1.0 code as it’s a 35 year old OS but nope.

You can find the Win2000 source code on Github which belongs to Microsoft, and nobody takes it down: github.com/pustladi/Windows-2000

Yes, the Win2000 source leak was nearly complete and there were people who tried to build it (WinNT 4 was built successfully). But now it is irrelevant, this newly leaked code includes complete code for Win2000, and WinNT 3.5 among others.

They released MS-DOS 1.25 and 2.0 as Open-Source though: github.com/Microsoft/MS-DOS

Maybe they cannot release the code of the newer operating systems because of the third-party contributions, so they leak it.

Maybe they cannot release the code of the newer operating systems because of the third-party contributions, so they leak it. Explain this then. Why did M$ take down NTDEV’s video of compiling it, even though there was no source visible?

Why did M$ take down NTDEV’s video of compiling it, even though there was no source visible? Wasn't it a false strike? I could be wrong but that's what I heard about.
