This may a dumb question but, how do you change the icon in the context menu for "Empty Recycle Bin"?

Bump but Shell32 modifications (only Windows 10 1903 and up and Windows 7 and lower can have those).

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\shell\empty @ihatemetro: I don't know about that, but I dd remember someone on some other forum claiming you can use some really old icon cache editor to modify the Shell32 icons from the icon cache directly: I tried it and the thing was a mess. Way too old and most likely to corrupt your system. Def not a route I'd suggest trying.

How did you manage that? I thought Shell32.dll was digitally signed?

haha 4k laptop go high-res
But it also comes with a caveat: Having to use registry files with dimensions of the buttons, scrollbars, etc whenever I have or want to switch classic theme schemes. I also have to logout and log back in too.

Look for the desktop icon and change it.

If you modify a dll, I also recommend changing the icons on imageres.dll at SysWOW64, because x86 programs uses SysWOW64 for system files.

Explorer.exe are a x64 application? Explorer.exe is x64. If the icons are not working, either do what travis said (reset icon cache) or if you are on Windows 10 1903 or higher, then modify C:\Windows\SystemResources\shell32.dll.mun. It will reset itself every so often, so just keep a backup of the modified shell32. That file contains the proper icons and is not signed.
