I know about VMWare and VirtualBox, but I have no idea what VM software is the best for Windows 98. Please help. travis Wasn't there a Discord server? I left it accidentally. I'd like to have a link to join again.

I would probably choose VMWare Player. Probably just because it's more lightweight. About the Discord server, you haven't accidentally left it. Our staff kicked you, because you were sending offensive images in the off-topic channel.

Sorry for necro-posting, you''ve probably already found a solution, but for anybody else who may stumble upon this post - If you're looking for a VM to run a Win98/Win95, play old games and get the real feeling of an old PC - PCem is what you need. Unlike other VMs, this one emulates the actual hardware; motherboards, sound cards , graphics, etc. It can run old 3dfx/voodoo games like NFS the way the were meant to be played.

I don't really like the way the cursor moves in PCem. It's way too sluggish with a bit of latency and just doesn't feel like a "real" computer. It feels more like moving a cursor on a remote desktop machine.
Also there seems to be a problem with stuttering sound (a lot more than it did on real computers).
Other than that, it's not bad because it emulates a real computer, if it wasn't for the mouse and the sound problem. But because of these problems it's not really better than normal vms. (it might be beneficial if you need a really slow processor, though)

Now that the thread is already been necroposted, I’ll add that DOSBox can run Win9x REALLY well. It’s a bit hard to setup, but definitely worth it.

I'd also like to add, another version called dosbox-x appears to officially support dos-based windows, you might be able to find a guide somewhere on their site dosbox-x.com/
