Hello. As a Windows 8.1 user, looking forward to a unavoidable future with Windows 10, I am concerned that by then the old control panel will be completely gone. What about third party programs by now? Are there already efforts to program an alternative for the settings menu? What are the chances that this will come in the next few years? Or are there even completely different ways to reactivate the old control panel?

I think the control panel will remain at least for compatibility reasons. Individual CP modules can go away though. It is sometimes possible to use CP modules from an older Windows version.
