SCT doesn't work AND permanently buttf**ked Openshell

Today was my first day trying to make Windows 10 not suck. I tried SimpleClassicTheme. It did not affect ANY windows in ANY way. The only programs that had an even vaguely Classic-like skin were SCT itself and its related programs. The ONLY thing that SCT did was disable OpenShell. I tried uninstalling SCT and its related programs, but this did not bring OpenShell back to life. The Win10 installation was permanently f**ked.
The only saving grace in all of this was that I was doing everything in a Win10 virtual machine in Linux, rather than installing Win10 directly to my hard drive, so I didn't have to wipe my hard drive and reinstall everything in order to have a usable computer again.
So, can anyone point me to a solution that actually works?
