Screw the previous guide, here's a proper and easy guide on how to get Game Explorer back. 1. Download all of these files 2. Put gameux.dll and gameuxlegacygdfs.dll into System32 3. Put gameux.dll.mui into System32\en-us 4. Put gameuxmig.dll into System32\Migration 5. Put files from 32bit.7z into Syswow64
6. Import all the .reg files using TrustedInstaller CMD 7. You can only open it with: shell:::{ED228FDF-9EA8-4870-83b1-96b02CFE0D52} 8. Adding stuff works properly: The icon being gone is an issue on 1809 and up. It used to be in imageres.dll
Doesn't work at all on my end, I'm on 1809 and did everything right, unless WinAeroTweaker's TrustedInstaller run trick is faulty, but I checked my Registry and it doesn't seem like something went wrong when importing the files  And so when I try to open "shell:::{ED228FDF-9EA8-4870-83b1-96b02CFE0D52}", it still throws the error that says there isn't an app associated to open the link The same is happening to me and I don't know how to fix it   |

I sent a reg file that conbines all the things you needed to import. It should be on the 3rd page of this thread. Download that and import it as trustedinstaller. In fact I did it but when I tried to run it as Trustedinstaller using Winaero Tweaker I never got the dialog asking if I wanted to add it to the registry or not. I don't know if I did something wrong or if it's normal but basically that's it. |

I did that but it still didnt work copy gameuxmig.dll to system32\migration not system32 Oh it fixed the problem i didnt place gameuxmig.dll |

I'd love to be able to modify the shortcuts with a tool like Vista Game Explorer Editor, however it seems like these Game Explorer files work very differently because there is no GameUX key on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on regedit, perhaps that's what makes VGEE cancel the first run. |

You could add it to the control panel or win+x menu instead or even pin it to start menu |

I have a feeling I did it wrong due to running every reg file idividually using a elevated regedit with PowerRun, as I do not know of such thing to make CMD run as TrustedInstaller. You can either use ExecTI or Winaero Tweaker to launch stuff or import regs as TI. So if I were to insert the path for the combined .reg file you sent into Winaero Tweaker using the File>Import/Export Tweaks function on the navbar, the Games Explorer should work as intended? (That is acknowledging I added all the DLLs into System32, although I see no "Take Ownership" selection when I right click a file.) I don't know how you would run TrustedInstaller in a CMD. |

One minor issue I'm running into, I would like to replace the Windows 7 games icon shown in the explorer but trying to edit the GameUX.dll file and replace the icon with the Vista version via Resource Hacker adds more sizes than needed which seems to cause the explorer to stop showing up. Is there any way to replace the individual icons in Resource Hacker or do I need to use something else?

You can export the icon, edit it using Greenfish Icon Editor, then import the modified icon back into the file
By the way, you're most likely looking for the icon in imageres.dll
