Hello,
I use Windows since twenty years, and i only like the win95/98 theme. We were able to get it back in XP and 7, but not on new versions. I got a Meegopad, wich is stuck with win8.1 and it's ugly theme; i would like to revert back to classic.
I'm only a user, i know nothing about programming and scripts. I got the classich shell for the start button, but can someone enlight me about where to start, where to download patches or programms ?
thanks

Before doing anything, create a restore point!Get the ClassicTheme.exe from this thread: link
You will probably have to disable your AV and add an exception. Then follow the instructions from this thread: link.

You could try using different hardware profiles (that you can select at boot) on windows xp and older, but ultimately it is not stable and moving between computers will mess it up. Check out this forum for 7/8/8.1 and 10 though (it is based on WinPE) : theoven.org/index.php?action=forum#c1

Ah, I think it needs kernel changes so you're out of luck.
Windows Embedded Standard 7 can boot from USB on multiple computers
I have messed about with installing it to a vhd on a usb drive and then booting it using grub4dos.

So I'm sure that some of you remember how after Windows XP was discontinued, a registry hack was found that would allow users receive Windows POSReady 2009 updates on Windows XP. This basically increased the lifespan of Windows XP all the way until 2019, the year POSReady 2009 is supposed to be discontinued for good. This, combined with the fact that Windows 7 is going to be discontinued in 2020, got me thinking. If some versions of Windows Embedded are based on Windows 7, that means that updates for those versions of Windows Embedded should (in theory) work with Windows 7, just like how POSReady 2009 updates worked with Windows XP. And if this chart (http://blogs.directinsight.co.uk/end-of-life-dates-for-windows-embedded-products-2/) is anything to go by, Windows Embedded should be receiving updates all the way until 2026. So, if it were possible to use a registry hack to receive Windows Embedded updates on Windows 7, the lifespan of 7 could be extended all the way to 2026, just like how XP's lifespan was extended. Do you think this would be possible?

As far as I know, no one has managed to get Windows Server 2008 updates for Vista. XP and Vista are quite a bit different, so I don't think it'd be as simple as a registry tweak.

It looks like that only applies to something called "unattend.xml", so...I guess that means the regular option might not be dead yet...? Idfk tbh

Hey guys, love what you're doing here, I just found out this site existed and am already skimming the pages. But I have a question, I was routed here through Google after seeing what appears to be one of IBMpads original posts I will link here forum.thinkpads.com//viewtopic.php?f=67&t=113024 . It's exactly what I've been looking for, as I have already downloaded and been using ClassicShell as my start menu for some time now. Other than that I've been going through DLL files one by one and exchanging icons with their native counterparts, i even replaced the system sounds with the originals that are still there, I'm running Windows 10 btw. My question is IBMpad's original download on the site listed above for getting Display properties back still a viable resource? or is there a better way? It seemed helpful to me being that I'm not so familiar with this and its been more of a learn by fire experience, I'm just trying to get Display properties back without tanking my only computer. I dont even care if it disables the metro apps. I dont use them anyway, thats what smart phones are for.
Thanks in advance
P.S. I will also reference this video
