I went to start9.menu/ and the last update is from Feb of last year. Is the project dead? No, it's certainly not dead, though we are in a bit of a...rough situation right now, having recently lost our main backend developer to IRL constraints. I won't deny that our sorry excuse for a blog hasn't done much to help the situation, and I don't blame you for thinking the project is dead. It isn't though - we aren't about to give up without a fight, so to speak. If it's any reassurance, I do sometimes post smaller, not-exactly-blog-post-worthy bits of progress on our Discord server. I'm not saying that to try to get you to join the server or anything, just to show that, well...progress is still being made. As far as I know, no it's not dead. But I would love to try a beta or even an alpha build of it! As much as I'd love to be able to say that we're nearly ready for a public preview of some sort, the reality is that we aren't. We've come a long way, but the road ahead is also a very long one. I wait for it like I wait for ReactOS for years now. I'm simultaneously flattered by and ashamed of that comparison. I, too, am onboard the ReactOS hype train, though I don't expect a finished product from them anytime soon. It saddens me that we're taking so long to produce any sort of results. I hate to admit it, but...I don't blame you for drawing the comparison in regards to time. Splitwirez has been keeping me up with its development since he first started work on it it, all the way back when it was just a start menu. It's definitely not dead, in fact I'd say it's coming along pretty well. Still got a ways to go before it can be considered finished, but the team has made a tremendous amount of progress on it, and I think there's a lot of potential for it to be something great. "Tremendous" might be a bit of an overstatement, given the scope of the task at hand... Aside from that i think we need some custom cpls a taskbar.cpl file made from an old explorer.exe.mui or modifying desk.cpl the closest to a desk.cpl for windows 10 would be the windows vista version because they added a strange non-classic look to that in windows 7. That's completely irrelevant. Take it to another thread.

<abbr> </abbr>That's completely irrelevant. Take it to another thread. ok to the relevant stuff you could borrow the classicshell customization option like change startmenu icons and startmenu skins and add a module that does all that then people without programming skills will make themes for it , skin a pixel perfect win7 classic taskbar just like the startisback skin but have it respect system colors asides from other modules like android osx etc maybe classictheme would not be needed cause you put its code into start9 , im optimistic about all that . Just imagine running it on reactos and get a better ui then reactos explorer lol.

Imagine ReactOS with Start9 and you get a better Windows than Windows. I eagerly await the day the pieces come together for that to happen. I not wanted to compare it with ReactOS. I just said I can wait. As long as the project not dead, Im happy. I understand you weren't drawing such a comparison. I'm just disappointed that we haven't been able to deliver something by now.

Splitwirez: I simply said that if you have a classic startmenu module you could add a "settings for classic startmenu" similar to the one used in classicshell About the not needing classictheme by ibmpad we just got closer to that a developer is making Simpleclassictheme (thread)Since it is opensource and on github its code could be baked in into your start9 program which would be awesome

Nope, 1809 and higher have a lot of bugs. 1803 works great with classic theme (NOTE: Have never tried it myself, just recently joined the scene but from what I've heard 1803 works great)

I only use W 8.1 now. Classic theme works like charm in that OS.

This is unfair. I'm in the Fast ring and I don't have 1907 yet

Two main things :
1 : Will network and audio drivers automatically be installed?
2 : Is activation required?

What actually happened is that my build number was a 1909 build number but the os version just didn't update. As soon as 20H1 builds rolled out, it updated the number to 2004.

I just realized that 7-Zip can open .esd files.
My first thought was to modify install.esd to remove some bloatware. Would this be a good idea?

No. Use DISM instead (It's included in Win10). With dism you should mount the image to a directory and from there you can remove whatever you want!
