File Explorer is out of scope in part due to how it works - explorer.exe itself is not actually all that responsible for it. As for the context menu bug, we are aware and will be seeking to fix it prior to Milestone 3 (the Win11-targeted release). By the way, the immersive menus of the sound icon have not been removed yet, but this can be solved by replacing the file (I think) You can use Windows 7's SndVolSSO.dll (and respective .mui) without any downsides, and which has no immersive context menu. Or alternatively, you can use the Eradicate Immersive Menus Windhawk mod.

Extra Indication
For Windows 10 users, if you wish to have active glass colorization w/OpenGlass Legacy on the start menu, you can use the included "glass.wh.cpp" mod by schm1dt (now gone from the community) which was previously used on glass8. Also, make sure your system msstyles isn't named "aero.msstyles" as that can cause some colorization artifacts. This is temporary.
How to use it?

This mod is extremely outdated and breaks stuff in explorer navpane, navbar glass. Eradicate immersive menus is a better option.

I found a bug, in dual screen, if you back in one screen, or extend , the background disapears, you have to shutdown explorer, and launch it again .(tried with nvidia panel & ultramon)

To use explorer7 with the classic theme, there are several adjustments to be made:
- Use any Basic theme activator at runtime (like this one)
- Check that the following Windhawk mods are, if installed, disabled: - Enables Win10 taskbar on Win11 24H2
- Fake Explorer path
- Classic Taskbar background fix
- Windows 10 taskbar on Windows 11
- Classic Taskbar 3D buttons with extended compatibility
- Classic Taskbar 3D buttons Lite
- Classic Theme Explorer Lite
- If ClientEdge disappears from Explorer, use another mod to enable it, like this one.
- Check if that the "Customize taskbar" option is disabled in OpenShell
- If you want to get a classic style start menu with OpenShell (and not the classic Windows 7 style) active the "Hide the start button" option in 7+Taskbar Tweaker

The start button also doesn't have an icon on it. To be clear, I do not have Open-Shell installed in this VM but surely this wouldn't be necessary anymore to get a decent looking taskbar?

s34642542 The iconless start button is a known bug; for now, the only solution is to use OpenShell instead. For the rest, OpenShell is indeed not needed if you use explorer7; without OpenShell, the start menu behavior will be identical to Windows 7 (this is a matter of personal preference). Concerning the transparent taskbar, I never had this issue, even without BasicThemer. Are you using a Windhawk mod like this one or this one (or something similar)?

I wasn't, no, but after trying anixx's mod the issue went away. Thank you. Another issue is that the network and volume icons seem to use the immersive context menu (and left clicking them does nothing) and even the "Eradicate Immersive Context Menus" mod doesn't seem to fix it. Apologies if these are already known.

Not necessary, you can restore the relevant resources to shellbrd.dll and it should restore the iconography. Saying this, we are exploring more user-friendly ways of implementing this for later milestone releases.

I just installed the Win7 fly out pack and now it's all fine.

For anyone interested, i talked to tihiy yesterday about possibly distributing source, however it's still at a "i'll think about it" stage. Take that as you will. If source distribution doesn't go through, we'll distribute PDBs on 1.0 or something of the genre.

But indeed, I guess in the future everything will be easier to install in explorer7
