I tried with Vista SP0 x64 the start menu is working ( a bit) Can u send the Explorer file u used? Was from Vista 6.0 RTM not SP1 or SP2. I replaced all folder from 7RTM , to Vista 6.0 RTM (the windows folder) , i had similar results.. i dont know how Explorer7 is working , because even after back to Explorer 8 and enabling Explorer7 again, i had similar results for Start menu. (the screenshot you can see)

Why my Vista RTM explorer.exe didn't launch even after I hex edit it? But Vista SP2 explorer.exe worked just fine after hex edit.

I have found the registry key that restores the connection between the Start Menu and the Notification Area icons. Please test this in a virtual machine. The notification area icons from Windows 7 are being loaded, which is why the Start page does not work. Thanks, my Windows 11 notifications didn't work, and this registry helped me.

i just wanted the explorer.exe file u used to try out The explorer.exe from vista rtm? will send to you when back home. (if you are speaking about explorer from my windows this is a 23h2) "Why my Vista RTM explorer.exe didn't launch even after I hex edit it? But Vista SP2 explorer.exe worked just fine after hex edit."
i dont know i never changed with hex edit . i'm pretty sure this is just a bug , after switching version of my explorer , because i got similar result with vista rtm and 7 sp0 explorer.. i dont know where explorer7 is storing settings..to restore it by default and try another explorer, i just deleted all windows folder on it.. and push the windows folder from other veesion of windows. my bad i think this is not the way to do.

Applying the Windows Basic/Classic theme on newer Windows versions became much easier with this software.
I have one issue though. There are grey areas around some system software like Control Panel or the copy dialog. I'm not sure if it's a Windhawk mod that should be enabled or disabled.
Edit: It turned out was because I was using the shell32.dll file from Windows 8.1, with the Resource Redirect mod.

Thx 2 Misha - UWP in explorer7 soon. Note - it'll be fully toggleable on/off through a registry key, so for those who don't want UWP hogging their system down or whatever, it should be accounted for.

This is something we just needed who know this may restore if not fully but practically restore it back to its former glory I really don't like Windows 11 or Modern Windows at all. This does help alot.

Has anybody tried to use a later explorer.exe? I would like to try Windows 10 build 9785 explorer with the non-XAML start menu. Unfortunately the ex7forw8.exe will only patch the windows 7 explorer.

I'm back now, Windows 7 build 7000's explorer kinda works within ex7 but it kinda looks broken because the start menu isn't functional, and some win32 applications didn't show up on taskbar. Is there a way to fix it?

Do we have an update for this or even a test version, I'd like to be able to use Settings for some stuff thats really important.
