kamuisuki These are my result of Vista SP2 explorer.exe running on Windows 10.
How do you do that, i changed the explorer to Vista SP2 and only gets a error with code 0xc00000142 I'm pretty sure Vista on Ex7 is not supported, wait till after the final 1.0 version gets released.

Actually, the current version of Ex7 support x64 Vista SP2 explorer. But the Start Menu didn't work. Need to find out anymore.

It doesn't officially support it, you *can* technically force it to run but given we haven't added any support for it yet (and we won't be until after the RTM release for 7) things will be broken and won't be fixed until we are at a point where development shifts to Vista.

View AttachmentThe "Unspecified error" broke the File Explorer shortcut and i couldn't even fix it. NOTE: I'm using explorer7 not StartIsBack. I wish I could help, however, the error message is so ass that I can't figure out what's the issue. A good error message tells you what's the issue (the Blue Screen of Death is a good error message because it tells you why it showed up in the first place), a bad one is vague (like the one you got).

As you probably already know, this will be because of something you've crippled on your end because this software doesn't do anything to your, or anyone else's shortcuts, and as usual you're seeking attention. As such, this is not our problem and we will not waste our time "fixing" something that we didn't break, and isn't actually broken to begin with. Please don't report made-up, self-caused issues in the future. Many Thanks 👅

Need to find out anymore. could you send the explorer, msstyles, and mui files for the vista explorer in a zip? i'd love to try out the vista explorer, and has anyone tried pairing it with open-shell to have an alright vista start menu?

It's probably caused by the registry modification from "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell"

For what it's worth, I wouldn't recommend doing this at present as our support for Vista explorer is merely coincidental with everything else at present. Around the time we finalise Milestone 3 and look to getting the RTM release of explorer7 together, we will investigate supporting Vista and XP in separate branch DLLs. This is not however an immediate priority. Additionally, using Open-SHell will give you a worse experience than using the actual menu once it is repaired, which seems unnecessary unless you actually prefer that for whatever reason. In the meantime I would highly recommend sticking with either 7's shell or your system's regular one - trust me, the wait will be worth it for Vista and XP fans. I know it's a long wait but we need to get 7's stuff properly stabilised and working to a sufficient level first in order to avoid splintering development and the codebase more widely unnecessarily.

tbh another limitation with this for 10/11 is the lack of anything handling programs that try to use 10's notification system rather than balloons (e.g. discord) those effectively go into the void

Hell, I even consider myself as a nerd, geek even. "Nerd" is one of the words that can be used in a pejorative way. But in fact, it is not an slur. Interesting fact: in French, there is no equivalent; the French language mainly uses stereotypes of socio-professional categories, but does not use many stereotypes to designate types of people individually.
