I found a way to use classic icon selection indicator while keeping (immersive) context menus and taskbar functional.
Steps: 1. Use this way to get the classic theme, keep the security window opened 2. Restart explorer.exe 3. Restore Query State back to allow 4. Open taskbar settings and toggle the small taskbar option twice
5. Restore Query State back to deny
Drawbacks: 'Show hidden icons' won't work; other than that will work properly.
All windows running under explorer.exe (e.g. file explorer, run dialog) will have visual styles enabled. For a file explorer window, you can use the 'separate...' option in folder options. (but context menus won't display correctly)
(It seems that system32/shellstyle.dll was restored on 1903, is it normal?)

I could not understand this post. What is "icon selection indicator"?
What is "show hidden icons" option? Where it is?
What is the "separate" option?
In your screenshots the File Explorer seems not use visual styles?

In your screenshots the File Explorer seems not use visual styles? 'icon selection indicator': 'Show hidden icons': 'separate': 'Launch folder windows in a separate process.' Since I wasn't using English version of Windows, I couldn't know exact English names of those. (For 'icon selection indicator', I couldn't know how to call it, so I just made up a name.) Sorry for the inconvenience. (File Explorer is not using visual styles. What do you mean by the last sentence?)

One question, does shellstyle.dll exist in system32 on 1903? Have you confirmed they've put it back or is this workaround?
I'll need to check this out myself, but I don't have time atm.

Yes, it exists. I didn't add it manually, but it just existed. I just did some modifications to hide the command bar, and it also works perfectly. (I don't know if it existed while I was using 1809.) Attachments:

Thank you. Yeah, they removed it with build 1809, and they've brought it back for 1903, which I can confirm as well: Not sure if it means it will stay, but for now all's good (except for context menus...).

If somebody knows how to add systemcall codes and program their own version of the contextmenu then process explorer would be most useful what it does is showing you the codes of the system call say you open the contextmenu thread process explorer lets you kill it and you will know it because it killed that context menu that you did open .

But the run menu as well as classicshell menu still has the flat metro theme window boxes any way to get them to classic too?
