Basically, I saw this thread which is an amazing solution for Classic Theme and decided I wanted to create a GUI for it. It's a simple .NET app which does the following things: - Installs and configures either SCT Taskbar or Open-Shell and StartIsBack to emulate a Classic taskbar/start menu experience
- Enables/Disables Classic Theme with a press of a button (or command)
- Runs Classic Theme in a way that both Explorer and Immersive apps run normally, without any bad looking theme files.
- Automatically enables Classic Theme on boot-up if it was enabled before shutdown
- It can install all these utilities when requested:
- Classic Task Manager
- 7+ Taskbar Tweaker
- ExplorerContextMenuTweaker
- T-Clock
- Folder Options X
- RibbonDisabler
How the Classic Theme works
Winlogon uses a shared memory section for handling themes. By removing access to this memory section the Winlogon process can no longer manage themes so the default theme is used, the Classic Theme. It's better then suspending the Desktop Window Manager because that bugs out the whole system while this still uses DWM to keep the system running smooth.
Screenshots of GUI (v1.0.6) running on Windows 10 Pro (version 1903) and Windows 8.1 Pro (build 9600):
Command Line Usage
SimpleClassicTheme.exe {ARGS..} You can supply an infinite number of arguments into SCT. It will first parse all of the arguments, and it will then execute them one by one. I won't cover all arguments here as there's quite a bit of them. Run SCT with --help to see an extensive list of arguments available.
Guide (RECOMMENDED)
I have put up a guide on the new (not official) WinClassic resource site:
NOTE: If you get a skinny taskbar or metro doesn't work on boot-up:
Open the utility again and increase the Taskbar Delay
Download
The application can be downloaded through the projects GitHub page. (link below)
Supported operating systems: Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (version 1803+) and Windows 11
Note that Simple Classic Theme does NOT work with ExplorerPatcher on Windows 10

This program is mostly really great. But problem is that it changes the font used in many places even after uninstalling. I tried replacing SegoeUIs in the fonts folder and checking fonts registry keys but nothing helped. I eventually got old font back with a system restore point.

I see on the Github site for SimpleClassicTheme that the program will not be open source from version 1.7.0 onward (current version is 1.6.0), and that the Github site (https://github.com/AEAEAEAE4343/SimpleClassicTheme) is now locked (archived). Does anyone here know when 1.7.0 will be available (maybe already somewhere?) and where or how?
SCT is a great program, and I always want to have its latest evolution.

lte I can't really tell when I'll finish it. I don't have much time to develop SCT and I've been doing stuff extremely slowly lately. It'll probably take a couple of months for me to release it, but I can't promise anything.

I was pretty unnerved when I could no longer find Simple Classic Theme on Github. Getting there through Google and I see it's archived.
If there will eventually be a version 1.7.0, where will it be posted if it's not going to go on Github?
Here?
I'm a Simple Classic Theme user on Windows 10, I feel like I'm lost without it. I just can't get used to the new stuff, no matter how long or hard I try.
I really appreciate the efforts to develop Simple Classic Theme, more than you can ever know!

I believe leet has checked in the latest open-source version : github.com/AEAEAEAE4343/SimpleClassicTheme

Yeah, I haven't. There's still one more open-source version to be released before I publish closed-source SCT. That is SCT 1.6.1. It will not add anything new, except for compatibility with updating from my own website and compatibility checking with SCT 1.7.0 as some features were removed there.

You're stupid for making this closed source.

What exactly? This is tutorial, and it is open-source. The tool, used in this tutorual to switch on classic theme is ClassicThemeTray. It is also open-source. anixx I think you're confused with your own thread, this is the SCT thread. You're stupid for making this closed source. I disagree, but I won't go into why. It really doesn't matter, the methods SCT uses are publicly known and are the same across all tools that enable Classic Theme, also the ones that are open-source.

You're stupid for making this closed source. If you REALLY wanted to, you can fork the old SCT

@ʇǝǝๅ ftw Yeah it'd be useless for you to go into why, because I'd really not care. Any sort of pretense of you helping anything/anyone went right out the window with what you did. I keep seeing you ego-capitalists in so many software communities, you're a chore. And in the end it will make barely any difference to you, because almost no one thinks it's important.
@techsalt Oh I know, in this case the software is simple enough that I can just make it myself from scratch and have something similar. Stuff like this still bugs me, though.

If, "Any sort of pretense of you helping anything/anyone went right out the window with what you did." is true, you either better accept that you can't use ClassicThemeTray because leet suggested it, or you must accept that your word is dishonest and without point. You can't have it both ways. "You are stupid for making this closed-source." This IS NOT YOUR PROJECT. If you think it's so stupid, choose a more different name, theif. If you can make your own software, why in hell are you so bugged and mad about this one? It does all the things it's supposed to do.

This program is mostly really great. But problem is that it changes the font used in many places even after uninstalling. I tried replacing SegoeUIs in the fonts folder and checking fonts registry keys but nothing helped. I eventually got old font back with a system restore point. That's not because of SCT, that's because of the way deskn.cpl works, which was created by Microsoft and included within SCT. Changing system fonts is more of a set-it-and-forget-it thing, not a patch-temporarily-on-top thing. To change your system font back you can use WinAeroTweaker. It has other cool features too, but be careful and don't use any feature you don't understand.

No it is an SCT thing, the restoring of system metrics is custom code. I broke that somewhere along SCT 1.5 and didn't fix it. Will be fixed in 1.7 (if I ever get that stupid updater done).
