Not much has happened: There has been a closed beta with some installation issues but overall success. SCT 1.6 migration is not implemented yet. The updater needs an overhaul but I have not yet done that. ExplorerPatcher support was planned but EP is kinda all over the place.

Biweekly progress report: Updater is almost done, just have to test it out a bit I will not implement ExplorerPatcher support as it slowly becoming abandoned SCT 1.6 migration will be a PITA as SCT 1.7: - fundamentally requires MCTsvc to be installed - does not have ExplorerPatcher support (yet?) - does not support Open-Shell + SiB installations
Since I don't have a thread for SCT.FEH, here's that: I'm working on a new project called just FEH that will replace SCT.FEH. It'll use a different hooking method that will allow for more (almost full) control over explorers layout.

PSA: Simple Classic Theme 1.6.0.4 has just been released. The wizard works! The main goal of the release was to fix the install wizard. SCT 1.6 can be installed on clean systems again. Note that the build was created by editing 1.6.0.3. Some small restrictions have been added for stuff that is out of date and cannot be fixed without a recompile. Old installations will **not** upgrade to SCT 1.6.0.4, but you can manually download the new build and select Install SCT. That will update your current installations. Full changelogFixed downloading of RetroBar caused by filename changes on GitHub. Fixed miscellaneous issues with the setup wizard. SCT now chooses x86 or x64 FEH versions properly. This version of SCT will no longer automatically update. More news on how to migrate to SCT 2.0 will be disclosed later. Removed the possibility to install EP from within SCT (it can still be configured through SCT). ExplorerPatcher can now only be selected as a taskbar type if it is already installed. Source codeThis version was not compiled from source, instead it was created by modifying the SCT 1.6.0.3 binary. So I don't have the source code for this version. DownloadSimple Classic Theme has moved away from GitHub. The new version is available from the SCT website, simpleclassictheme.nl. All SCT related downloads and changelogs will be found on this website from this point forward.

Is the SCT setup wizard something that people would like in SCT 2.0? I ask because I removed it in the current codebase, as it has been replaced with a simpler, less extensive first load dialog. With testing I sadly noticed that the dialog is not feature complete. Stuff like classic task manager and open shell is missing and cannot be installed.
My basic idea is to create a new install wizard that works similarly to the old one. The default settings will probably be RetroBar + preconfigured OpenShellMenu + Classic Task Manager + 3D Borders. That way when users that know less about classic theme can just click next and get a reasonable setup working quickly.
What do you all think about this? I normally don’t post stuff like this on WinClassic, but I have noticed the SCT user base has shrunken a lot since the flaws with SCT 1.6, so I’m doing it here instead of on ClassicServ.
By the way: I missed the biweekly progress update twice here. I promise that I will update you on what has been going on tomorrow.

I would be interested in an installation wizard. I would also find very useful a "Do not show again." option on the little window brought up by enabling or disabling 3D borders.

I also think having the installation wizard is a good idea.

As promised, the biweekly progress report
SCT 1.6: I released SCT version 1.6.0.4 a few days ago to fix the wizard finally. It is also the first release that is available on the new SCT website, where all releases will be published from now on.
SCT 2.0: I have done some backend stuff for the website to allow fetching of resources. The updater can now properly discover and download new SCT releases. Updating of MCT and resources has been implemented, I still need to create a method to update SCT itself. Resources are not included inside SCT anymore. They are fetched from the server as packages instead. This way I can update included installers, tools and branding without releasing a new SCT version. I have massively overhauled logging and error handling. SCT used to just stop when something went wrong, but now it can detect errors and inform the user about what exactly went wrong. The log files contain more detailed error information that I can use to debug any issues anyone might have.
Stuff that needs to be done for 2.0: Create the update mechanism for SCT itself. Make sure MCT works without any issues. Finish the new appearance dialog. Create an install wizard. Add back support for Open-Shell Menu, Classic Task Manager and maybe ExplorerPatcher. I still need to look into how to shape the support for OSM and EP, as I dislike the implementations inside SCT 1.6.
FEH: There is no progress on FEH yet. I have primarily focused on getting a stable SCT version out and developing the new SCT release.
As always: feel free to suggest things and ask questions. I will try to reply as quickly as I can here, but it is better to reach me on ClassicServ or on Discord directly (leet#7049).

evnl Do you have any error details? The initial error was because the VM I am testing in was not connected to internet it seems, once I connected the VM the internet the error was The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden. If I manually install Startisback++ I still can't get the taskbar to work.(I have my taskbar set to startisback with openshell as it is the only one that supports double height it seems)
UPDATE: I'm making some progress, if I manually install startisback++ but don't run it my taskbar seems to be ok. In SCT taskbar is set to startisback with openshell, in openshell customize taskbar is off(well it was off, but restore openshell and startisback config and SCT enabled it again). SCT does not seem to detect startisback is installed when I click install classic utilities.
UPDATE 2: For the first time in a long time I seem to have a fully working classic theme installation. The only thing that is annoying me still is the color of the notification icons, they are all white. And update again, changing windows theme to light fixed that.

I recently updated Windows 11 to the latest update for the 21H2 build, and now Simple Classic Theme causes the desktop to be hidden by a black screen. Can't get task manager to show up, and the issue only goes away after removing Simple Classic Themes files from the files by using an admin account that doesn't have it enabled.

When this happens, try restarting explorer manually. You can do this by opening the task manager, opening the Run window, and entering "explorer" into it without the quotes.

You need to install Classic Task Manager. The default Windows Task Manager does not support Classic Theme at all.

Hi! The theme worked almost ALL RIGHT. XD I've tried to upload an image here, hopefully it worked cause I don't think I can explain with words what's "wrong". I can try my best. You know when you click the desktop with your right side of the mouse? So you can personalize your windows wallpaper, for instance, or when you don't want to just press F2 to rename a folder's name and instead you go to Rename from the menu that appears when you click the folder with the right side of the mouse. That's all gray to me and I can't see a thing. Please, what can I do to fix it? Attachments:
