how did you get that winver? explain step by step. (to prove without raging, on vista with RH, i tried modifing build number to 2195 or some number, but it always shows 6001 other than the number i input, also i can't show the "Physical memory available to Windows: X KB" [as x means the amount of P.M.] thingy. also windows 2000 SP maxes out at sp4, not sp5. also it should be Build 2195:, not build 2195; [since a semicolon is a typo, not a correct symbol. so it should be :] ). I copied the text direct from shell32.dll from a copy of Windows 2k and customized the text to my liking. I've no idea why the ram does show up correctly for you. As for the bit about Service Pack 5, I know it doesn't exist, just wishful thinking of a alternative reality where W10 doesn't exist and W2k still got support. In my mind, this custom build is W2k and Windows 10 is nothing but a bad dream. Thank you for pointing out about the ;, I've corrected it.

The Jackal I would be pretty happy if you could share an ISO with everything modded by you (classic theme). That would be time consuming, above my understanding, as well illegal. Sorry, not happening.

Well, I downloaded IE4 from your link using Web Archive. It has some potential as a file browser: Still, there are drawbacks: - It needs admin rights - It does not save or use the folder view options from shell bags - It shows the table title in all modes - It opens subfolders in File Explorer (possibly needs change of file associations) - It uses only English laguage

By the way, if you remove or rename the file MSHTML.DLL in the browser's folder, it will use MSHTML from your system, in other words, you will have a modern browser looking like IE 4!

@mina : I get it now - you're trying to modify winver. I made my own, I didn't edit the existing one the system. I used another program as a surrogate and edited it's dialog to match winver, then edited it to my liking. anixx : Yes, that is my video. IE4 from my experience on W10 needs XP service pack 3 compat mode on. Using it as a file explorer did cross my mind, but imo it's a bit buggy and would need severe tweaking to get it stable. @vaselcraft: www.winclassic.net/post/1724

The main problem with it is that it does not use the view settings from the shell bags registry keys. But what is really imteresting is that one can use ie4 as a frontend with modern mshtml. You will have a modern browser looking like ie4. The only glitch here is that the address bar does not work, but open menu entry works well as well as shortcuts, history panel and everything else.

(same for system resources which shows it as % [as seen in my screenshot])

Nothing fancy - I just changed all the respected icons in imageres.dll with CustomiserGod. What program is File Search Classic? Also, did you know that you can extract the icon from Win1.0 paint using BeCyIconGrabber? This one: sourceforge.net/projects/filesearchclassic/ It's just a free alternative to Agent Ransack. 2 reasons I liked the looks of it: 1. it's aimed at being simple and classic theme oriented and 2. this comment from the author: " The original motivation behind this application was my desire to bring back Windows 98 search. Windows 98 sucked, but the search application was clean, simple and it worked. I hated the less than functional "new" Windows 2000/XP style search - and it's never improved, IMHO. I DON'T want file indexing in the background; I DON'T want brain dead wizards; I DON'T want cute animations. I DO want easily recallable search criteria; I DO want to easily select multiple folder trees; I DO want regular expression text searches; etc". As for Paint, corrected it: Thanks for the tip. how did you get paint (1.0, 3.1, 7, reactos) to work? i want to open 1.0 & 3.1 & 7 & reactos!

I wonder if the x86 version of Quero could work with it, to replace the address bar? I doubt it, but could warrant investigating. @mina : I take a program (which one? doesn't matter, it's irrelevant ), open it in Resource Hacker or another resource editor, and then edit it to make it look like Winver. It's a fake winver. I can't explain any better than that. EDIT: Oh boy, Windows NT 4.0 is turning into a gold mine! Internet Explorer 2 and NT Task Manager load up fine. NT TM has an issue with icons (not showing the correct ones and only in 16 bit colours), but it's working from what I can tell.

Also that is a screenshot of a hacked offbyone browser offbyone.com/offbyone/index.htmNo, that screenshot is Internet Explorer 2 from Windows NT 4.0 running on W10 LTSB 1609. Try it for yourself. @mina : You need to use Winevdm: github.com/otya128/winevdm. For W7 Paint, I can't get that one to load (not that's a shame, it was the worst one). Hey, can you link me to the Windows NT welcome program? I'd appreciate if you could do that for me! :> I've linked it to this post. IMPORTANT note to MacXP (which requested winNT welcome program, and sent a :>): it is broken and stuck on: " Did you know...To open a program, you just click the Start button, and then click the program's icon." Also ticking "Show this Welcome Screen next time you start Windows NT" will NOT make this program show up. [unsure if this will happen also with windows 95 welcome program or not, but if you link me (clasurol) the windows 95 welcome program (mentioned below), i will tell you the results] First: Tell me, clasurol, how do we fix these problems? (mentioned above) Request: I want Windows 98 FE (or SE, no difference) welcome program, and windows 95 welcome program. i will appreciate it!

- I don't have the W95 Welcome program. - Clicking "Next Tip" doesn't change the tip shown in the main window of the NT Welcome.exe. It works on NT 4.0, so there's something missing. IDK how to fix it. - Add the NT Welcome.exe to your startup folder if you want it to start at login: www.thewindowsclub.com/startup-folder-in-windows-8- I've attached the W98 Welcome.exe to this post. Extract the contents to C:\Windows. You also need to run the program with admin rights. + It's buggy, but works fine if added to startup. Attachments:W98 WELCOME.7z (661.72 KB)
