This project thread is ready to merge to Brawllux's CPL Restoration Pack ver 4.0. You will see this project in the pack at the future. Please stand by…The end result: All functions works fine.
DISCLAIMER:
If your system cannot enable and install .NET Framework 3.5/3.0/2.0 or have a problem here, the most likely reason is your Windows Update had been corrupted or your system was corrupted/your system was not set up correctly. I am not responsible for these issues. The best way is you need to reinstall your system and try to restore by following this instructions again.
INSTRUCTIONS:1. Make sure you had enabled and installed ".NET Framework 3.5/3.0/2.0" optional feature. If you haven't, please enable and install it at the following place, and restart your pc.
2. Grab icardagt.exe, icardie.dll/mui, icardres.dll/mui, infocardapi.dll, infocardcpl.cpl from Vista/7 and copy to System32 (mui to \System32\<your locale folder>\, for example, US English is en-US) 3. Apply this registry file: cardspace.reg (3.95 KB) (Thanks for Brawllux's CPL Restoration Pack) Now control panel should display Windows CardSpace, but it didn't work. So we need a service to drive it work.4. Copy "Microsoft.NET" folder located in "C:\Windows" from Vista/7 to Windows 10's "C:\Windows", but don't replace already exist same name files, just keep them and merge same name directory. 5. Apply these two registry files: idsvc1.reg (5.48 KB) idsvc2.reg (5.48 KB) These will create CardSpace service. 6. The last step, go to "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v3.0\Windows Communication Foundation", use regsvr32 to register all dlls and apply all registry files here. (idk if this step is necessary or not, but you may have a try) (update: this step had been no longer necessary)Restart, and launch Windows CardSpace normally~Edit 1: There is a probability that restoring CardSpace will fail. services.msc reports error 1053 when starting the service. I can't temporarily find the most likely reason. But once you succeed, there will be no problem later. (now this issue was solved)
Edit 2: Windows 11 supporting!!! (but the "Browse..." didn't work, and missing the old secure desktop dim, replaced by your current accent color when "Windows mode" is dark, otherwise white or black)
(LOL)
Edit 3: Windows 8.x should supporting too.

So if we know how to restore services does this mean we would be able to restore Windows update functional control panel? The Windows update control panel I've wanted for ages

Did you copy Vista's Microsoft.NET folder to C:\Windows? It seems your issue is missing service file.

Actually I had tried to restore Security Center service, but service.msc said this service was unverified. Idk what to do about it. Which files did you use? anyway try signing the files with a file signer The original Vista's wscsvc.dll that I use, and Security Center service registry keys also from Vista.

Or you may need to use regsvr32 to register all dlls in "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v3.0\Windows Communication Foundation", and apply all registry files here?

I don't even have the service, urbanender please help Restart. If there is still haven't service, it means you are missing service files. Try to copy complete Windows Communication Foundation folder located in "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v3.0" from Vista to the same directory in Windows 10, and replace all the files if something inside (but I remember that Windows 10 doesn't have this folder)
